I always appreciated the straight and clean design of most of the Porsche Design watches, but was not so fond of certain design elements like the flat dial style. It was only a matter of time -- and resources -- to complement the pilot's tool watches by a set of Porsche Design watches.
I started with the legendary Titan Chronograph in various variants and the Chronograph 02. The image shows a totally original piece of the very first Titan Chronograph with the "Porsche Design" label on the bracelet (there was no space on the dial with "IWC" both in capitals and script) and a black-on-white date disk:
Already when I owned the Porsche Design Ultra Sportivo only I was fascinated by the functionalities of another Quartz watch, the Porsche Design Reiseuhr. Now I was able to obtain two versions which differ from each other not only by the dial color:
While the world time and alarm complications are certainly related to time, there is only a weak association between a watch and a compass. Ferdinand A. Porsche together with the IWC engineers managed to combine these functionalities without compromises into one instrument. I started with a rare green variant of the first generation with Aluminum bracelet ...
... bought and restored a rare Mekka-Kompassuhr ...
... and closed with this extremely rare (five pieces) version in Yellow Gold for all case parts including the compass:
While collecting pilot's watches I did became a military watch collector and discovered the Porsche Design Ocean 2000 story. I needed some time to really appreciate the design, today the Ocean 2000 BUND is my preferred Porsche Design watch. Over the time I acquired three types: Automatic, Quartz, and the rare AMAG.
The rare black Titanium Ocean 500 turned out to be too small for me.
Today I still own the Ultra Sportivo for sentimental reasons, the early Titan Chronograph, the "faulty" Reiseuhr and the Ocean 2000 AMAG.
