I have a 3701 Pilot watch which has been well looked after. There have been no problems with it since new. And there are no knocks, scratches or other visible indications of damage.

Recently I have noticed that the white chronograph hand no longer sets to the correct position. Rather than resetting to exactly 12 0'clock it now sits at around three quarters of a second past twelve.

Can anyone shed any light on this problem? What may have caused it and what action is required to address it?

    Thanks

I'm very familiar with this model watch from IWC. As you are probably aware it is difficult to diagnose specific problems and fixes without having the watch on the bench. But, my guess is that there could be one or more reasons for the described happening.

    1. The breaking lever on the hour recorder wheel is worn and slightly ineffective.
    2. The hour recorder wheel has become defective
    3. hour recorder wheel is totally dry of lubrication
    4. Both parts mentioned above may need replacement
    5. The reset pusher may be somewhat clogged inside

Routine maintenance and service which covers total disassembly and checking the affected parts which may need replacement should solve the problem you have.

Hoping this answer has been of help.

    Many thanks for the reply.

The watch has been serviced by a recommended agent. But sadly the service was far from impressive.

Where are you based? Would you be interested to quote for the work?
