I don't seem to be having any luck searching the forum for a discussion regarding the advantages/disadvantages comparing the 51010 vs 51011 movement in the 5001 models.
Any comments that would help me decide if I should only be shopping for the newer movement or if it isn't a concern?

One string is linked below, and I'd be willing to bet there are others.
In general, I would think:
Newer is always better, both because (a) IWC doesn't make changes to downgrade a movement and (b) a more recent movement will need service later, but
These are minor technical differences --it is not that one movement is "bad" and the new one is "good". I have the original 5002 Big Pilots Watch --from 2002-- and its movement works fine, the watch keeps time, etc. I don't see the need for a later movement for me any more than people distinguish between a cal. 8531 vs 8521 vintage movement.
