    Hi Guys,

Ill will be a proud owner of a new IWC 5001014 come Monday. But while I was was putting money down to revered the 5001. The hand wound 5454 caught my eye. I've been saving quite a while now for the 7 day. But now find myself drawn to the new hand wound Portuguese. What should I do? Which one do you guys recommend I get?

Go with your heart and get the HW as well! LOL! Virulent IWC virus syndrome is harmless to everything bar wallets. Best of luck and welcome to the forum.

Yes, that's difficult, two great watches. If from the point of view of looks both are about equally attractive, then you could consider wearing comfort as a criterium. The handwound is both lighter and thinner, it wears far more comfortable.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

I number of months ago I was faced with that exact same choice. Somewhere in the archives is my post on that very question.

I received a lot of good input from Forum members, as I am sure you will.

Since I already had a Jubilee Portuguese and a Pisa Portuguese, here is how I answered that question:

    www.fototime.com/%7B63829CB2-85B2-4EFB-9C7B-886501AAD418%7D/origpict/DSCN6801.JPG

and here is the modification I made, which brought me even greater satisfaction:

    www.fototime.com/%7BEF6B0FAF-51F1-4E7E-B9FF-07E614BA9BD8%7D/origpict/DSCN6807.JPG

If it were my first IWC or Portugueser, I'd probably go for the 5454 due to it being thinner and a bit more comfortable. On the other hand, the 5001 has an 8 day power reserve and is such an efficient winder, once I put mine on my wrist I don't have to touch it at all, other than constantly caressing it with my eyes.

Tough decision. Good luck. Make sure you post pictures once you get it!

Can't go wrong with the 5001-14, so not need to fret that u made a wrong decision :)

    the portugese handwounds are beautiful...

but for me, with this one, I have thus far resisted that urge :)

this option in the Portuguese Pure Classic I think is worthwhile considering too...

It really does not matter which one is chosen. Surely, you will eventually own them both. Just a matter of time...and money.

The 5001-14 is a great choice and a classic IWC, driven by a wonderfull 7-days automatic movement and with a date display. The 5454 hand-wound is very different allthogether, it's thinner, has a larger diameter and no date. It's almost impossible to decide between them so go with the one that speaks to you the loudest if you are able to compare them site by site and on the wrist. They do make a nice pair as stated earlier so you might end up owning them both in due time..... Good luck!

Thanks for all the feed back guys. I'm very excite and lucky to be apart of this group. I'll be picking up the 5001014 tomorrow with no regrets since ill most likely get the hand wound in the future.

Also I was watching one of the clips here on the website about how to take care of our watches. In the clip the person recommended a full service every 5 years? How much dose that cost?

Pick up my 5001 014 today. Couldn't stop smiling. I was smiling for at least a hour. The more I wear it the more it like it.

I also got a winder for this watch what setting should I put it on.

Congratulations! The 5001 is a magnificent watch and I doubt you will need the winder much. Enjoy and wear it in good health and make sure to post some pictures.

    Kind regards,

I've started saving up for the 5454. I think it looks ok on me. My wrist is not to small.

At First I didn't like the black dial but now I like it. Its kind of sporty.

    Love this watchi1310.photobucket.com/albums/s658/Kwattanaporn/23897D57-84C7-416C-ABB4-E281630A8EA2-142-00000003456F871D.jpg

Congrats on a beautiful purchase. I really like the the 5454 too, but I think you made a good call. Besides, like others have pointed out, the 5454 can come next.

As for the dial on the 5454, I prefer the black with a white sub-dial or just all black. But that's just my view.
