The 79320 calibre features in several IWC chronograph watches. However, in the 2010/2011 Catalogue table of IWC manufactured movements, the 79320 is not listed. I would therefore be grateful if anyone can provide information concerning the origin of manufacture, beats/hour etc., for this calibre.

    Hi David,

Only in-house movements are mentioned in the catalogue. For the chronographs that would be the 89360, the upgrade 89361 probably is not yet in the catalogue.

The 79320 is a movement made by ETA, based on the world-famous 7750, probably altered to IWC specifications. It is a very good movement, no problems to be expected.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

Hi Dave, my understanding is that calibre 79320 is an IWC-modified Valjoux Calibre 7750. I believe traditionally such modified movements are not inserted into the family of IWC Calibres page of the annual catalog. As you noted, in the 10/11 catalog, the 37171, 3718, 3799, 3783 and the 3767 ATs all use the 79320 calibre movement.

However, the modifications I am made to understand improves the movement so substantially that many accept it as an "IWC movement" (which is, as it stands, a big topic with very valid Yes and No arguments abounding): The primary advantage is to reduce the power of the barrel of the original movement therefore ensuring less wear and tear, thereby prolonging the lifespan of the IWC movement.

There has been a earlier discussion & specifications listed for the 79320 calibre which can be found here. I cannot attest to the accuracy of it though (see below).

Hi Shing, thanks very much for all this detailed information. I have a Pilot's chronograph in the UK (purchased approximately 2003) from which I have been seperated as I work in China, and the watch needs a full service. I am keen to find out more about it and other IWC watches.
    Thanks once again
    Dave

    Hi Kelvin,

Great information, the missing link so to speak, in my quest for history and specification of the 79320 movement in some of the IWC chronograph watches.
