I just picked up my VC Ingenieur Automatic in WG (IW323304) yesterday.

One question I have for fellow owners on Cal. 80111:

Does the movement give any tick-tick-tick sound or feedback when you manually wind the watch through the crown?

I think from time to time I heard a very very faint clicking sound if I pressed the watch against my ear when winding, but otherwise the manual winding was rather "blend". Is this experience the same with other owners?

I did wind my watch to the full, and the overwinding prevention clutch did start to make the slipping sound after many turns on the crown. Watch is running fine and appears to be quite accurate so far. It is running about 5s fast in the last 24 hours with dial facing up.

The only other ETA based automatic watch I have is an Oris Flight Timer Worldtimer watch which uses a modified ETA 2836-2. The manual winding on that watch is just as feedback-less.

I have an Ingenieur Automatic with the 80110 movement - very similar. There is no sound of "tick-tick-tick" because of the gear ratio, the "ticks" happen at such high frequency when you manually wind it. So it feels very "smooth" and you hear a high=pitch whirl or buzz.

It's very hard to diagnose usage and service issues on the forum - I would need the watch in my hands to tell you - or your Authorized IWC dealer could easily tell you.

Since the VC Inge has a display back - you can watch the winding pawls as you manually wind it - and see them "bouncing" over the teeth - as they clutch the winding train...

My 80110 ticks when reaching full wind, signalling that it's time to screw the crown down again.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Ardoise,

I did exactly as you suggested and saw the winding pawl bounced over the teeth silently. I do believe the watch is working fine, just not expecting manual winding on the 80111 would be this "smooth". I understand most automatic movements have a "smoother" manual winding than hand wound movements, but I do prefer a little more tactile feedback.

    Thanks.

That would be the overwinding prevention slipping clutch at work. On the 80111, it is quite audible too, but still on the soft side when compared to other watches I have.
