    Greetings to everybody,

I am a newbie to this forum but have been a watch aficionado for quite a while. Recently I became a proud owner of a beautiful IWC Vintage Pilot's watch. Must admit, I fall rather easily for watches that a replicas of vintage designs, so this was just a matter of time for me:)

The question I have is regarding the beautiful movement which is 98300 in my case. I know that original Jones caliber used gold chatons to hold the jewels. Does my caliber have real chatons or are those imitations?

    Thank you,
    Ivan

They're brass with plating --but don't let that diminish your respect of, and enthusiasm for, the movement one bit. It is a great movement.

    Thank you, Michael,

This is what I wanted to hear. No way this is going to change my attitude to the Manufacture or the caliber. I am a bit of a geek and just wanted to know for sure. I love hand wound movements, especially ones of such a pedigree.

Great watch indeed, congratulations! My motive to buy it a few years ago was about the same as yours, it uses the beauty of the past and combines it with the size and manufacture skills of today. And it really looks fantastic on the wrist.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

    Ivan,

Not many of this VC model gets posted, but your pic's emphasize how truly beautiful this piece really is. Love the bezel, style of Arabic numbers, railroad chapter ring, and partnering it up with a St. Ex. strap.

Really shows a nice presence on the wrist. Thanks for sharing a look at this seldom seen Vintage Pilot.

    Very Cool,

    Andy

    Michael, Paul, Andy,

Thank you fellows, you are very kind. I am new and already feel at home.

This is my only IWC watch at the moment. I am picky and like hand wound watches, or if they are automatic - I don't like it when they have a date :)
When you get a chance to try this one on, you HAVE to turn the bezel - it's unbelievably smooth, it almost feels like it has a ball bearing mechanism.
Does anybody know if this is so?

Taking pictures of my watches is another weakness of mine :)
Love the hands and the lume!

Those are beautiful pictures, Ivan. They seem to illustrate that beautiful piece in better light than most online pictures I've seen. It's good to see some really good pictures of the VC pilot.

I'm a fan of hand-wound watches too and I'm now carefully considering on which to pick up that carries this caliber. In the meantime, I'll just drool over these wonderful pictures.

On several occasions I have been poised to acquire this model but opted for something else. I know Paul really likes this piece. At some point I will get one.

    Ivan,

welcome to the forum. Your pictures are outstanding, the watch as well.
Being a lume addict, I love the last shot but all others are great, too.
I don't have a handwound "new" watch yet ( I proudly own the Cal89 Ref. 604 )and never wanted another one but I might skip this idea now. Thanks for "sharing" your VC Pilot.

Ivan, your pictures of this watch are outstanding. I've had mine since it was released back in 2008 and I've taken tens of pictures but they are no where near your quality. Thanks for posting.

    Regards,
    Kevin

Great pictures of a truly handsome watch. Like Alan, I've come close to this one on occasion - but have not added it to my collection yet.

    Great photos too.

    This model is very beautiful.
I dont know why iwc did not produce as limited edition .
What's the list price in AD? Can the watch keep the value after 20 years?

    thanks

The Vintage Collection series has not been in the last three catalogues, so there is no current list price and the price depends where you live. In the UK, the steel version was around £6,500. The platinum models were limited to 500. If you search around you might find a Vintage Collection Pilot watch in an authorised dealer but I suspect most of the steel production will have been sold. Who knows whether it will keep value 20 years from now but I suspect it will still keep reasonable time, if serviced..
