NOS dial for a gold Ref 866AD Ingenieur.
If anyone tells you that NOS dials for the Ref 666 and Ref 866 Ingenieurs are impossible to find, don't take that to the bank. They are out there, forgotten in the stuff of old watchmakers. All one has to do is keep searching. This one has not seen the sun for over 40 years, but now will catch up as it already has a proper home.

    Tony,
How did you find this? An accidental find? Persistence? What is the actual story?

WOW...what a great treat to see a mint 40+ dial with decomposing Tritium. Can't wait to see that get cased up.

    Nice Pick-Up,

    Andy

No accident for sure. As it happens I have been searching for a dial for my gold Ref 866. What surprised me was how quickly I found it, although I am sure this is unlikely to be repeated.
I am ever amazed at what can be found while rummaging through the atelier of old watchmakers in Lisbon. When entering their shops one may very well be in a time warp and travel instantly to the late 19th or early 20th century.
I visit them once in a while and, while chatting, I open the drawers of old cabinets and find stuff they had forgotten they had.
This is the marvelous world of the vintage watch collector. It sure beats going to boutiques and talk to salespersons who know nothing about IWC or even watches. They may be prettier, better dressed, and even smell better, but the experience can't be compared.

Maybe you can start a TV series on Scavenging for watch parts and vintage models. Great story and result.
