Movement and case serial numbers date it to about 1960. One owner for the past 30 years but prior to that provenance is unknown. The dial is exceptional when viewed under magnification, with an almost perfect finish and no signs of oxidation. My thoughts are that this may be an older service replacement dial. It's hard for me to believe that the original (55 yr. old) soft iron dial could still be in such good shape. Perhaps it was replaced at the same time the original fish crown was replaced with the non-fish service crown that is currently on the watch?
The lugs are full and can be seen compared against a mint unpolished 666. One or two of the lugs may have received a very light polish. I say this because there are slight variations in lug thickness.
The red arrows on the caseback show that the angles are sharp and crisp, I also see remnants of the original circular brushing. As you can see, the caseback has seen better days. Lots of scratches and oxidation. Thankfully nothing too deep. It is nowhere near as dramatic looking in real life. In fact I was somewhat startled by how rough the caseback looks in my pics! I'm glad that no one saw the need to "clean it up" leaving it nice and shiny with all of it's original contours destroyed
The movement is exceptionally clean and is running within COSC spec.
I'm delighted with this one. It's been on my wrist since I received it 3 days ago..
Please feel free to critique, analyze, ponder, etc.
cheers,
Todd
