As previously posted, an IWC Gathering was held today in Austin, Texas. We hoped to have attendees from 4 continents, but Ben's ("Bendy") plane from Australia was delayed, so the representatives from 3 continents carried on.

If you're gonna eat in Texas, you know what you're gonna eat!

That critter on the wall over our heads was a little different. He actually talked! It's true! Ask Jim ("Dzul") who is my witness. It was all good until he sang Happy Birthday to a little girl at the next table, causing her to burst into tears at the sight of a stuffed steer's head talking. Or is that a cow? Or a bull? Memo to others: don't invite city folk to country places.

So here are Jim ("Dzul") and the lovely Dorothy arriving for dinner.

Here are the attendees. Yup, three continents. Count them. Dorothy (L) is from Kenya, Africa but is now a proud US citizen, Dick ("whichwatch") (R) is from United States, North America, and Jim ("Dzul") (C) is from Texas. What? Texas is part of the US? You haven't talked to many native Texans lately, have you?

We started with the rib appetizer. Everything is bigger in Texas.

Finally, out come the IWC's for the requisite table shot.

We know the water resistance of each of these watches. But circumstances caused us to wonder what was the barbecue sauce resistance. Jim decided we should test whichever watch on the table was the newest. Uh oh. That was Dick's 5001.

Sigh. I wonder if he knew that? Ok, a deal's a deal. Bring on the sauce!

OK, big boy. In you go!

For Sale or Trade: IWC 5001. Like New in Sauce. Smells Great.

Ben, we missed you. Sorry your plane was late. Jim and Dorothy are looking forward to meeting up with you later this week. Watch out for the singing steer/cow/bull/whatever. And don't let Jim fool you with that "newest watch" bit!

Great post, Dick. It's lunchtime here -- the ribs and slaw are taunting me.

Glad to see that it wasn't a Santoni that was sacrificed to the sauce.

We did miss Ben, but D and I intend to hook up with him this week. Understand, that Dick drove all the way from Houston for this GTG...so it was important that the food selection be "Texas true!" Nothing says Austin Weird like a steer head singing "Happy Birthday" to a terrified toddler! LOL! A big thanks to Dick for the opportunity to see him again...and doesn't this just make y'all want to come down for a visit?

Well done and hope Ben can find you soon! I bet he'll be really sorry to have missed that Texas food.

Looks like and must taste like you had a great GTG. TX may indeed be a separate continent. AT least by its size it's bigger than some countries. Good to see you all had grand ole time in the Heart of Texas. Dick, where did you get that Texas sweatshirt? It won't do to wear that around OH, particularly in Columbus on a football Saturday.

Thanks for the report and pictures, it's always a pleasure to read GTG stories. I hope the 5001 comes out fine and maybe the sauce gives the strap something of a red inner lining making it a wannabe-Santoni :-)

    Kind regards,

    Clemens
