That's a wonderful gift no matter who it comes from.

    Thanks, Alan! Lol!

And Alan, my Mother-in-Law actually thought the dial was blue...

The IWC Boutique in Taichung is indoors inside Top City - a very large department store - and I believe the reflection of the lights in the sapphire glass gave it a blue tone.

Thanks, Kenneth. I believe mine is there to compensate for my wife who doesn't quite understand this thing of mine with watches... ;-)

    Jeronimo,

Belated birthday wishes and what a wonderful gift. When you say you are entering your "Pilot Year" does that mean this is your first pilot? If so, a number of us started with a MARK as our first pilot and then built our collections off it. As you have probably read from past comments, those that own a MARK have nothing but praise for their purity, simplistic design, accuracy and reliability. The MARK XVI was my introduction to IWC and I enjoy it today as much as the day I got it. I hope your XVII brings you much pleasure for many birthdays to come.

If your Mother-in-Law happens to be visiting SoCal in September, I'll be happy to escort her to the Boutique and show her what's on my birthday Wishlist.

    Best Always,

    Andy

    Kanimambo, António!!!

It's not a MK11 but I am feeling really happy with it as the worthy successor it is.

    Um abraço!

Hi Andy, many thanks. It is indeed my first pilot and I never imagined I would enjoy it this much. Very different from my other IWCs but I'm now finding it hard to put aside... I believe it's really an example of pure watch design at its best.

If my Mother-in-Law finds herself in those parts of the world I will surely let you know... ;-)
