I joined this forum because I recently acquired an 18ct cal 89 watch and it has provided me with many questions about it. I'd appreciate what help you can give me so I may full appreciate my acquisition.

The serial number on the case is 1184735 and that on the movement is 1165403, but the last four digits on the movement are a little unclear.I assume from what I was able to research that it dates to 1948. Is it possible that the misaligned digits on the movement are correct and original?

Looking at the lugs, I'm unable to find them on any photo references I've looked at. they look like the teardrop variety but with the inner points going uo to the edge of the glass. Do members recognise this as a usual IWC cal 89 case?

I understand that the button is a later addition.

I have had a little difficulty adding more than one photograph. (Maybe I could also do with some help loading more.)

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

My apologies. I was hoping to load many more photos but am having some difficulty because of 'missing URL's'.

Your help would be appreciated despite the shortage of illustrations.

    I'm working on it.

    Hi Andreas,

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, when I followed the steps you suggest after pressing OK, I get a message saying 'HTTP error occurred during file upload'. For some reason I got the one picture up but all attempts to add the rest have failed. I shall persist.

    Kind regards,

    Charlie

picture size is limited to 5Mb, maybe that is the reason

Some pictures just don't load. Even when their size is way below 5 MB. I experieced the same behaviour that's described by Charlie as well.

Btw. welcome to our nice Forum Charlie. Hope you find the answers you want here and maybe even more useful information.

    Cheers, Tilo

Despite still having problems adding photos, I have to agree with Tilo that this IS a nice forum.

I shall persist, knowing that folks are out there understanding my difficulties.

    Hi Chacha,

fom a first glance, the second hand is not original, it is to short. The dial looks very much repainted. The crow is not correct. Please post pictures from th einside of the case back and the movement, that will give us more information.

Your 1948 timepiece with the serial number 1184735 on the case and 1165403 on the movement holds a unique charm, even with minor discrepancies in the movement's digits. The distinctive lugs, resembling teardrops with inner points extending to the glass edge, may be unusual for an IWC cal 89 case. Adding a button later on is common in vintage watches and can add character. For assistance with uploading photos, the forum's moderators can likely provide guidance. Enjoy the journey of discovery with your intriguing timepiece!

Thank you for your encouragement. I'm still working on posting my photos, though not full time.

One day I shall be able to share all my questions about my piece. At present, I just wear it and enjoy it.
