It appears to me that IWC is moving the new Spitfires a little bit away from being "Pilot's watches with a different dial" towards a more independent identity. To build further the new Spitfire line-up, a new time-only model would be nice. May I suggest a 43mm case and an 80000-calibre based movement sans date. It could look something like this:

Very pure, very plain and very clear - just a watch and nothing but a watch - yes it looks great! No gadgets, without any frills. Most of us know the day, the date, the month and the year we have - so your wathch tells us all we need to know. Excellent timepiece.

    Regards, Lutz

Not bad at all, but I think it is a bit too plain, too symmetrical, even a bit boring. Maybe replacing the 12 by the dotted triangle would do the trick. And in these days a tool watch should include a date, it is practical about every day.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

    Yes, it's beautiful!

But 43 mm. seems excessively large to me. (I wonder how many Forum members agree on this point.)

One other change I would welcome: above the word "Automatic" on the dial, I would love to see the word "Spitfire." That would give the dial greater overall balance.

    Cheers!

It's a handsome watch, but personally I do like the date complication. I also like the guilloche treatment on the current Mark XVI Spitfire.

With some professional rendering this image could easily look more "real"
A simple and modern day hybrid of a Spitfire and classic Mark XI - pure simple and potentially iconic.
