I knew I'd like Lisbon, spiritual home of IWC's Portuguese watch, but I didn't realize how much. It's a city with wide avenues and large plazas, and both modern buildings and decaying older ones. There's a romantic ambiance, coupled with a sense of history.

The eloquence of its best old buildings reflects this tradition:
    i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n558/michaelfriedberg/6906887690437ee805e1bc53d18226c6_zpsef774978.jpg

And the Atlantic shore reveals both a rawness and a tranquility:
    i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n558/michaelfriedberg/ec3f146555f897b559feac183f2a06f1_zps0e2cfcde.jpg

Still, some of its inhabitants think the best scenery are its watches, like this one:
    i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n558/michaelfriedberg/d3a6875b3183b9635785de495abd8327_zpsf529503a.jpg
By the way, this "small" little watch is a very rare New Zealand Air Force Mark 11.

One of those inhabitants even thinks that watches can challenge some of the world's freshest and best seafood:

Not surprising, perhaps, given that he calls himself on this forum clepsydra, which is the name for "water clock" but literally comes from the Greek κλέπτειν 'to steal' and ὕδωρ 'water').

Actually, Tony is a great guy --and we had a grand time in and outside of Lisbon.

    Hi Michael,
    Very nice photos...
I was playing with thoughts of visiting Lisbon later this year and actually staying a couple of days in Estoril...
I think your impressions fuel the idea..

Michael, I'm very happy to see that you are/were in Portugal and that you enjoyed Lisbon, thanks for the great shots.

I trust that António proved to be an outstanding host (I expect nothing less from him) and that you both had fun, the portuguese way.

Congratulations to António for another precious piece in his already amazing collection.

    All the best!

    Great team!!!

And a great city even though more than 10 years have passed since my latest visit there.

I really look forward to meeting you both in person at some future occasion!

Let me know if you ever make it to Gothenburg...

    /Anders

This forum is indeed more than "just" watches. I thank this forum for the opportunity to make new friends around the world, who share the same passion.
And thanking the forum I also thank Michael for making this forum the classiest watch forum in the net.
Come back to Lisbon and Cascais Michael. Next year in Florida. :)

Everything I've heard about Lisbon is very complimentary and you've only added to that, Michael. Great to see the Tony make an appearance as well. Thanks for the report.

Looks splendid. I hope you got to test those waters - leaving your Portuguese in the hotel of course.

New Zealand Air Force Mark 11? Very cool. Didn't know there was an NZ IWC. Nice.

    Michael,
    Thanks for sharing the experience.
Its amazing how much we get to know about IWC and the different models, in the forum.
Had a question, could we have, on the IWC site, a collection of the vintage IWC watches (time pieces) that are no longer in production, like this one : New Zealand Air Force Mark 11.
I too did not know of this beauty. I know it would be a long task, and I think many on the forum would love to know more of the earlier watches. What better than pictures to do so.
In puts can be obtained from many Forum members itself. Being a relatively new member (2011), it would give guys like me a great insight.

And she found her way to the antipodes. She can't be any farther away from New Zealand and still be on planet Earth. :)

You're Danny Wilde, that's obvious. You look like you're saying: "We know what we're about".

    Doesn't it sound persuading? :)
