    Novice question..

So how do you correctly adjusting the moonphase relative to the actual moon on the VC Portofino?
As far as I know, wait until the day of full moon and adjust the moonphase to the absolute center.
Or do people just wear it and don't care about the correctness of the moonphase position.

i find it quite hard to gauge...

but i use the internet to find out where the moon is and then put it as close as i can by eye. seems to work but there must be a better way.
the other way is to keep it powered up constantly but then in real life...

set it first to a full moon...

...after checking a reference source for that date. Then move the moon the number of days between the full moon and today's date. That should set the moon to the exact phase.

Since I don't wear my Moonphase watch

every day and it is a manual wind, I just put it on and let the moon be wherever it is.

I don't really need to know the correct phase, and I'm perfectly happy just watching the little thing move even if the big thing in the sky doesn't look exactly the same.

    Simple...

Once you've bought your beautiful VC Portofino, you spend a few extra dollars on a 5022 which serves as a regulator for your Portofino. The 5022 is only good for 500 years or so. If you are really fussy, resort to the inter-web for advice, as per MF's post.

I apologise if the pictures do not appear.

    ...but unfortunately....

It's a shame that the moon phase display on the 5022 will be off by "one day" in 522 years. That's an accuracy of about .0000052483 per day.

    I mention this facetiously.

You are absolutely right in your suggestion Ralph.

that's one day in 577 years...

the moon phase displays in the Grand Complication and Edition Kurt Klaus are accurate to a deviation of one day in 122 years.

set it first to a full moon...

Just a kind piece of advice here: I did that twice, both times because I allowed the watch to stop and thus, it became out of sync with the real moon. Result: The winding mechanism got screwed up, and watch went in for service (I expect to see it in about 12-15 full moons later). So, you may want to consider just to let the moon phase sit, if you don't wind it every day....
