Hello Toby and welcome to the forum.
I had to delete your link to the website of the seller as we are a non commercial forum.
The watch has a cal 84, a smaal movement, mostly found in ladies wristwatches.
It was made around 1926. I believe the case is a non IWC case.
Hope this helps,
regards,
Tonny
Thanks Tonny,
Aplogies for the link. Your breakdown of the watch sounds positive, much appreciated.
In my mentioned case do you think IWC should have made the case?
I wish you and all the forum well.
kind regards
Toby
Hello Toby. I did not see the link to the watch but I do know that Tiffany did use IWC movements for some of their watches during the 1920s so it is not surprising if the case is non-IWC yet still authentic.
I agree with Ben, and indeed starting already from the original Jones period - many IWC movements were sold as bare movements (to be cased separately by the wholesalers/importers) into the USA.
The Cresarrow Case Company was a good example to of IWC movement cased by a thirds party. See here for an example of a couple of pieces cased by them
Thanks all, much appreciated.
Hi all,
Just a quick question. I'm going to have a look at the watch but wondered about the movement (CAL 84). Are they easy/expensive to service? Do they need looking after in any special way? Were these movements reliable and of good quality?
Many thanks
Toby
Hi,
I've purchased a watch for my wife for Christmas. It has a IWC cal.84 small movement. It's been running for a couple of weeks but it seems to lose about 5 mins a day.
Could someone tell me if this is normal or should it keep better time?
Many thanks
Toby
