It's been a classic since 2004. Some watches are just designed that way, particularly if there is a heritage to the watch.

Great pictures, and in my book it's a classic already. I have been wearing it a few days this week :-)

I wanted that exact piece even one or two years before I came to IWC.

This year I feel it`s now time to propose to this beauty.

If i had to really narrow it down I would say the essence of IWC is either the Portuguese Automatic or the Big Pilot.

Of course there is the Ingenieur 666, the SL and the 3227. And yes, there are Marks, Pilot Double Chronographs, several great Aquatimers and of course the legendary Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar. In my opinion the Yacht Club Chronograph also has the potential to be such an icon.

But coming back to the initial question; if I had to pick one and just one watch I would pick that masterpiece. (and I will)

    Oliver

    Oliver,
As others have said,it is a classic! You will not be disappointed with this watch. Enjoy it and post some pics when you acquire.
    Regards,
    Kevin

Pure and clean design, very appealing, and much cheaper than ref 5449, the next big thing.

Definitely a classic. Probably only second in desirability to the Big Pilot in IWC's current collection (and that's subjective)

Certainly a classic, although I prefer other versions, like the rose gold and the steel black dial. I certainly would have bought one if I didn't already have the Portuguese Perpetual Calendar.

    Kind regards,

Thanks for posting these pictures. I own the aquatimer chrono titanium and my next IWC will be the portuguese automatic. In the meantime I'm going after the vintage ingenieur.

Oliver, Yes the Big Pilot is iconic - but, it's not everyone's watch.

Now, this classic is different. I've yet to come across someone who has put it on the wrist, and not had it looking absolutely great!

So Yes, whilst there are many great IWC to chose from - this watch is one you should definitely add to your collection. And take a leaf from Alan's book - blue is the way to go too! Just make sure your AD delivers it in the same box that mine came in! ...which looks like this!

    Best regards
    Mark

absolutely and undeniably a classic. it was this watch that made me take notice of iwc for the first time many years ago. it was ahead of its time with its beauty and particularly its SIZE (which many others are now trying to emulate...). it will never ever look old- a definition of a classic in my mind!

    regards, vinhthang
