My last two vacations were wonderful but involved much sightseeing and numerous activities that left me feeling I needed a "vacation from my vacation." I decided the time had come to show Dorothy the place I spent thirty years visiting archeologogical sites and basking in the sun...the Caribbean. In an oblique tribute to all the great Dutch members in this forum, I decided the Aruba in the Netherlands Antilles was my destination. I was not disappointed by my choice as Aruba was the perfect destination to lie on the beach, sip large cool drinks and float in turquoise waters.

Naturally I visited the IWC AD owned by a family that built their jewelery business around their offerings of great Swiss watches. I found the sales associate to be a member of the owner family and extremely knowledgeable about IWC, and proud of an excellent inventory from each IWC family. Interestingly, he said that the new Portofino line was extremely well-received by his customer base and already sold out when his order arrives in October. I apologize for the lack of in-store pictures, but we only had Dorothy's 'point and shoot' with us and many of you have already had the oppurtunity to be underwhelmed by my lack of prowess with that particular camera.

In any case, here are a few shots of a very beautiful part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands...with the obligatory shot of my trusty Spitfire Mark XVI. I really needed a white face AT for this holiday!

Thanks for the great pictures Jim. Never been to this part of my country, but I guess it is worth going over there when the kids start to appreciate flying in a plane for more then 3 hours ;-)

Jim, Yes indeed one of the better corners of this little "Kingdom of The Netherlands" we Dutchies call home!

Your photo's are great, and indeed show off well the sunshine and tropical beach feeling of the island and I hope that my countrymen made you and your wife feel at home and ensured you have had a great vacation.

Of course, that metal bracelet on the Mk XVI is just the thing for those hot days on the beach.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Best regards
    Mark

Dorothy and I were treated like special friends during our whole visit. It further increased my desire to visit the 'home country' and meet all our great Dutch forum members.

Thanks Dimitris! Although it has always been one of my "must see" places to visit...I have never had the pleasure of visiting Greece. The closet I came was sharing a phone call with Roberto to Argiris from a restaurant in Rome! LOL!

WoW! What a paradise - that must have been a relaxing kind of vacation - absolutely beautiful And I really love the tropical flower and plant arrangements everywhere. Truly amazing. I would love to get some of their best flowers online somewhere to get my own holiday feeling at home. :D

By the way, nice art! :-)

So an IWC AD there? Well that's just bumped that island up my to-visit list!
