    about non-local purchases

    Hi Matthew,

I'm not trying to talk you or anyone into buying anything anywhere, but I can say that I've bought watches probably from at least 20 different countries. If one is a vintage collector, for example, you can't choose what country the rare watch you have been searching for might be in.

To that extent, it is more inconvenient, but not by as much as you think. You can hedge the currency risk by converting today (and sometimes I've won or lost by plus or minus 5% --which I consider part of the deal). LIkewise, I've incurred shipping --and sometime import duties-- but that, too, is often part of the price as I consider it. I've even hopped on an airplane to pick up a watch. Again, if I'm paying a slight premium that still is worth it for me, especially realizing that if the watch were carried locally I might be paying more regardless.

If, for example, the watch is $10,000 (and this one isn't) and if I pay an additional $500 in "soft costs" that to me is minor. It's the same as paying $10,500 locally --and I think if I REALLY liked it, I wouldn't "throw the baby out with the bathwater".

Also, regarding not trying it on, I must say that this model most likely will be pre-sold. No one will get to try it on --dealers almost certainly won't have samples in stock, because everyone will order in advance with deposits. But perhaps I'm wrong and there will be some available, or possibly this model won't be boutique-only (people at companies due change their minds).

I say all this not to convince you otherwise, but only to give you additional perspectives to consider in general.

    Regards,
    Michael

Lovely watch. Very reminiscent of the

JLC Ultra Thin, but as pure IWC as the Ultra Thin is JLC.

I've never been fully satisfied without a second hand, or preferably a subdial, so maybe my Portuguese this year will be the new model with contrasting subdial. But I'll bet 1000 people will be very happy with these!

Any photos of the black dial?

MF, that is one elegant piece. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Have you seen the black dial version? Will it have silver applied numbers or gold like the white dial?

    Thanks,

    Rob

    not yet....

It may take a few days, but the black dial will be photographed. I just didn't have time --I literally had 5 minutes to grab the silver one away from a crowd and shoot it at a hotel meeting.. If I recall the black dial version has gold applied numerals like the silver dial.

    Now I have a dilemma.

I had pretty much decided that I would be getting the white dialed hand wound port once it was introduced and then this comes along! Now I really am torn. In all events, it is great to see some really nice watches being launched. I am looking forward to my fellow forum members' reports from SIHH after they've seen the watches.
    Regards,
    Dan
