    Greetings,

Every December we have a drawing intended to outdo all prior drawings. This year is no exception –we’ve got a large number of unique prizes. The prizes and procedures are described below.

December, it seems to me, is always a special month. The holiday season is a time for dreams, and this year we all can dream about a special IWC watch. The only catch here is that it’s a watch exists only in your dreams; it hasn’t been made yet. We all should read about your perfect fantasy watch.

I once asked a watchmaker what would be his dream project. He told me that he’d like to make a true perpetual calendar watch, which even takes into account date inconsistencies every 100 and 400 years. A mechanical watch that never would need resetting. Only trouble is, this watch is neither designed nor on anyone's short list to be produced. It's just a dream.

Likewise, what is your fantasy watch? What IWC isn’t produced today that you’d like to see?

We all know that one forum member wants a 24-hour watch. We’ve heard others fantasize about a ceramic-cased Ingenieur. I’ve also heard collectors ask for a manual wind Big Pilot, perhaps with the Jones movement. Or a new steel perpetual calendar Portuguese. Or even something simple –perhaps only a different dial or hands or color combination..

So please post below, before 12:01 a.m. Schaffhausen time on this Wednesday morning, December 13, your answer to the question “My IWC fantasy watch is….”. That's only three days from now, so please enter as soon as possible.

At least 20 and possibly more winners will be selected by random number drawing. These winners will receive one of numerous different prizes. Pilot’s Watch books and St. Exupery’s Night Flight. IWC shirts in various colors, and IWC caps. Note pads, DVDs and more. The odds of winning will be large –hopefully no less than one in three.

After entry, please check back here on Wednesday, December 14 for the announcement of the winners. If you’re lucky, send me your mailing information immediately thereafter so that prizes can be shipped promptly, in order to arrive hopefully before Christmas.

Thanks, good luck and happy holidays!

    Michael
P.S. None of any watch ideas mentioned above are, to my knowledge, “in the works”. There are no hints here. Conversely, this contest isn’t a way to solicit new ideas for actual production. It’s just wishful thinking for a wishful time of the year.

I've been waiting for this question.

A couple of years ago, after being frustrated with the types of mechanical regatta watches currently available, I dreamt up what I would want a regatta timing watch to be like, and of course I placed IWC on the dial!

I wrote a 9 page document outlining the parameters of this watch, I will see if I can provide a link to it.

    A big date Portugeuse...

This is a feature that very few watch companies has succeded in creating in an innovative way. But knowing what Guy Bove did to the perpetuals and tourbillon, I would assume that IWC could create something rather spectacular.

    Time for a fantasy watch...

If IWC created my fantasy watch it would be a ceramic-cased Big Pilot with a red seconds hand and red stitching on the black buffalo strap.

    Ho Ho Ho!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Steel,handwound Port w/ moonphase & power reserve

    This dream watch would feature:
    - blue-steel hands,
    - silvered dial,
    - traditional Portuguese numerals (dark blue, applied),
    - "International Watch Co." in the classic script,
    - based on cal. 982 but with free-sprung balance,
    - sub-seconds (of course), and
    - classic moonphase display on upper left side of dial balanced by power reserve on upper right -- neither of which crop any of the hour markers.

Such a watch I could simply not resist, no matter the price!

    David

A close second would be a limited edition Ingenieur (cal. 8011) but with the ref. 866 case shape at 42 mm, with military-style dial, paddle second hand, and a half-hunter case (display back) that maintains the watch's amagnetic properties when snapped shut.

    My IWC Fantasy watch is...

a Mark XVI with a titanium case and the 80110 movement. This watch would incorporate three things IWC does better than anyone: pilot watches, titanium and a tough as nails, reliable Pellaton mechanism. I hope this fantasy becomes a reality.

Thanks for reading this. Happy Holidays!

Modern interpretation of the 60's ingenieurs

I would love to see an Ingenieur in a design which picks up on the Ingenieur’s of the 60's - not a copy - but a modern interpretation. An understated but potent package utilizing the cal. 80110.

    The Warhorse

OK, maybe we can come up with another name. But I'd like to see an all purpose sports watch that is water-resistant, anti-magnetic, anti-corrosion, anti-shock, anti-scratch, protected against decompression (just like the pilot's), protected against extreme temperatures, and super accurate (< +1 seconds a day deviation).

Since we're fantasizing, I'd also like to see the following:

    1)Flieger chrono - inhouse mov't with subdials at 9 and 3 o'clock

2)Port chrono - using the same inhouse chrono as #1 with modifications of course and the subdials at 12 and 6 o'clock. So basically the same dial as the current Port chrono.

How about a blued steel case 5001?

limited edition w/ silvered dial, applied white gold hands and arabics.

I love the way blued hand catch the light. Is it possible to construct a case using the same process? I think it would be awesome.

    Time for a fantasy watch...

On of my IWC dreamwatches would be an Ingenieur with a small power reserve indicator and addition UTC function and alarm. That way it would make a very sturdy and functional travel watch for all over the world.

Regards and good luck to everyone!
