In the catalogues from 1990 thru 1996, there was listed the Ref. 3805 Ingenieur Chrono Alarm. The list price for the SS model was $4995.

There were a number of variations available- SS with SS bracelet with either a white or a black dial, and a mixte version of SS and yellow gold with a gilt dial. I believe there were even some available with precious stones set in the bezel. Also, the Ref. 3815 was the same watch but with a leather strap, and the all gold Ref. 9515.

As was the norm for that time, it was a compact 34mm across and only 9mm high. The engine was a JLC based C. 633 meca quartz- a mechanical chronograph with quartz-controlled step motors. It was waterproof up to 3 bar (30 meters).

The alarm function was controlled by the crown at 11 o'clock, and indicated with the red hand.

This was a 'true' Ingenieur, in that it had a Faraday cage. It has also been said this was one of the famous designer Gerald Genta's designs.

Whatever the case, it is a wonderful example of IWC's history.

Quite an interesting piece. Though an Ingenieur it also has some Pilot DNA as well.

Great Ing. Nelson, thanks for another Ing. topic.

But these Ings. ref. 3508 need no Faraday cages :-)

    Greetings

    Heiko

Nelson, I've never heard that the Ingemieur Chrono Alarm was a Genta design. For several reasons, I'd be surprised if that were true.

    Thanks for this post!

It seems that contemporary models are lately more in fashion.... So it's great to see some vintage here. If I can call this model vintage??

Love wearing vintage 'small' watches like the true aquatints 1812 1816 and today the 3711.

Anyway I get carried away. I just love the old Iwc's. It's more then just a variation in the dial!

    Hi Nelson,

That was my first ever IWC, I bought it in 1993 and must admit that I do regret selling it :-(
