    AT White Dial Aquatimer

I have been wearing my new AT for over three weeks and I thought I would pass on my impressions of the watch.

    [i69.photobucket.com/albums/i49/lndblr/P1000351a.jpg](s69.photobucket.com/albums/i49/lndblr/?action=view&current=P1000351a.jpg)

You can obviously get all the technical details from the web site, but the pertinent parameters are these:

Model 3568 06 Stainless Steel, Black rubber band
    200 bar
    44mm
    14 mm thick
    147 grams
    hacking seconds
    calibre 30110
    42 hr power reserve automatic

I have always liked the look of the white dialed AT (Model 3536 03) which I think dates back to 1997 or 1998. That watch was 42 mm and was produced in limited quantities. The new model looks very much like the 3536 as you can see from the photos.
    [i69.photobucket.com/albums/i49/lndblr/IWC3536a.jpg](s69.photobucket.com/albums/i49/lndblr/?action=view&current=IWC3536a.jpg)

It is only 2mm larger but the pedigree is obvious. I like the fact that IWC pays homage to their previous line of Aquatimers while finding new design updates and innovation.

    [i69.photobucket.com/albums/i49/lndblr/P1000309.jpg](s69.photobucket.com/albums/i49/lndblr/?action=view&current=P1000309.jpg)

I have a relatively small wrist but the contrast between the white dial and the mostly black bezel centers the dial nicely and makes the overall watch appear smaller than it is.
The indices are nicely raised and the legibility is very good. The second hand has a small yellow pointer much like the Plastiki has an orange pointer. The bezel is a very modern yet understated update to the usual dive watch methodology. I know some have lamented the disappearance of the internal bezel and locking mechanism. For me this is not a concern. During the time I have worn the watch the bezel has not been accidentally rotated. It is unidirectional and takes more than casual effort to move.( I liked the look of the internal system as well but the new bezel is quite striking) As to luminescence, more on that later.

I have not checked accuracy but in 18 days I have made no adjustments other than returning to Eastern Standard Time.

I also have had no opportunity to check water tightness, but I do not anticipate 200 bar as a preclusion to any reasonable activity I might perform in the water.

The outside of the case is a brushed finish as is the outside of the buckle. The strap is very comfortable and is attached in a curved fashion so the watch conforms easily with your wrist.
    [i69.photobucket.com/albums/i49/lndblr/P1000310.jpg](s69.photobucket.com/albums/i49/lndblr/?action=view&current=P1000310.jpg)

    [i69.photobucket.com/albums/i49/lndblr/P1000312.jpg](s69.photobucket.com/albums/i49/lndblr/?action=view&current=P1000312.jpg)

The new strap Quick change system is welcome. At some point I intend to acquire a stainless bracelet and it will be nice to simply push a few releases to change from one to the other. No more screw driver scratches or pin release gouges! The system locking mechanism seems sturdy and secure and cannot be accidentally triggered by your wrist.

Which brings me to the lume.

    [i69.photobucket.com/albums/i49/lndblr/P1000321.jpg](s69.photobucket.com/albums/i49/lndblr/?action=view&current=P1000321.jpg)
Somehow IWC has managed to get shades of blue and green out of what appears to be white Super LumiNova coatings. The watch positively glows in the dark. The effect fades overnight but is still easily legible by morning. Maybe MF can comment on the lume properties underwater in the Galapagos. I love this look...the color change gives the watch a different, if temporary, look.

Bottom line.... The watch is a fine addition to my collection. It competes with my other watches for wrist time and has the look I desire. I like the whole AT line but if you are looking for the simplest and cost efficient way to get an AT this could be it. Highly recommended.

    A fine addition indeed >>>

excellent review and pictures. I am anxious to see it the next time we have a "townie" get together. Seeing these pictures and your impressions makes me wonder if I need an AT in my collection as well...there is an obvious hole in mine for the AT line and the BP. I've got some soul searching to do.

    Thanks, Alan

from the first time you posted photos! I wish I had an opportunity to try it on when I viewed the AT's at the Dallas WatchTime event. Thanks for the detailed review, Alan! I think you have a great addition to your collection...and a mighty spiffy one at that! :-) Those lume shots still blow me away!

    Best regards,
    Jim

Fantastic. One of the most intriguing features...

    Alan -

I think that the sapphire lined external bezel is amazing - and the dial contrast is superb.

    Thanks for the info.

    It's a striking piece>

Thanks for the report. I love the 3536 and agree that this is a great modern re-interpretation. Interesting point about the white dial making the watch appear smaller than it is.
It looks great and what more can anyone say about that lume...?!
