I would like to know how many 5002 Big Pilots in platin have been made. Both 500202 blue dial and 500203 black dial from 2003 to 2006.

I have heard a lot of guesses ranging from 400 blue and 100 black in total, to 500 blue and 500 black in total, to 250 blue and 250 black in total or 500 per year with 250/250 blue/black per year.

How many are made in what years and is 500 the total number made or has there really been hade 500 per year?

Did the Black come out later than the blue model?

Does anybody know this for a fact?

    Thanks

I am in no position of authority to provide you with a definitive answer - but I believe IWC does not even track that level of information on what the split of Blue and Black Dialed Platinum BPs are.

I think anything you "heard" on the #s is pure speculation.

The Blue Dials were introduced first.

Off the top of my head I don't have the numbers and Rich is right about non-disclosures of production numbers for limited production (as opposed to limited edition) watches. The quesses you've heard are wrong.

The numbers were small, certainly not hundreds per year. Originally, the platinum model came out in blue dialed only, which was IWC's "hallmark" for platinum. But the watch, announced at Basel 2002' came out just as Georges Kern became CEO in January 2002. he didn't like the blue and told product management to have a black dial platinum. That came out in a "soft launch" a few months later.

Based on what I know of sales back then, even 500 total production, for all years, for both is too high. The allocation between dial numbers were never published.

    Thanks Michael

It was and is a bit of a mystery regarding the 5002 platin BP. It makes it a bit more exciting to get one.

If it had been 500 per year it would have made the watch to common and the interest and prices would have depreciated allot more.

They came with different movement’s right? Which one should I go for?

It is just difficult to find out which year the different limitation numbers are made and which movement the have.

WoW! That's the first that I've heard the all 500 were NOT produced. I remember seeing #498/500 at an AD and that had a black dial. Over the years there has been lots of speculation regarding how many blue and how many black were produced. I'd also love to know that, but unfortunately, it sounds like that may never happen.
