Having made the very difficult decision of choosing between the 5002 & 5004 due to originality and more of a unique timepiece I am now struggling to find out which watch strap was designed for the 5002. I wanted the brown strap but have an Alligator clasp strap rather than the smooth (I assume) calfs leather strap. Does anyone know which strap was intended for this watch and out of interest what do people prefer?

    Hi Daniel,

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your decision (the same one quite a few of us have gone through ourselves).

As per Mark's suggestion (thank you Mark) you'll be able to find the original strap specifics of the watch on the BP website - which is a Brown Buffalo Strap with cream stitching.

Good luck and if you get your preferred combination do post photos here.

    Regards,
    Thang

Here is a picture of my original 5002 Buffalo Leather Strap. It's a bit dirty after all these years. You can see a least a little bit of it.

What you're looking for is the dark brown buffalo strap, reference number A05624. Unfortunately, it has been discontinued so you'll have a hard time finding one. For my taste, the flight jacket look and texture of that strap made it a perfect match for the Big Pilot. I think it also looks great on a Vintage Series Pilot:

Take a close look at the central seconds hand. I took the picture with a 1 second shutter speed. You can count the beats....5 stopped images per second for the slow beat movement for my 5002.

    Thanks for all your help.

Think I will stay with the Alligator strap for now as it is in great condition and still looks good as it is a proper IWC strap with the tapered edges.[img]
