Hello gentlemen. This is my first post. I have just recently acquired a big pilot, my first iwc and i am very happy with it.
Accuracy has been very good only gaining 1 second a day despite being new and with the power reserve between 5 and 6.
But i have a question that is bothering me. Compared to other watches i have i feel the crown is a bit stiff when screwing it down and it needs a bit of force to screw. The best i feel confortable doing still leaves a bit of space (1mm) between the crown and the case . But i am afraid of trying to close more than this because i am afraid of damaging it by applying too much force.
Also when i press down the crown to screw there are two moments. The first one i press a bit and it goes down and if a press more there is a second moment when it does a click and i start to screw.
I have handled other big pilots on ADs and i had the same feeling when playing with the crown.
Thanks for your help in advance!

    Best regards
    Rui

    The crown has 2 positions--

partly out which is for date setting and full out which is for setting the time. Naturally when you push it in you feel the date setting position and the final position.
Regarding the force to "screw it in"--I am reluctant to comment as mine doesn't take a lot but, not knowing yours, I pass on comment.

Welcome to the forum and great 1st IWC

Many congratulations on your Big Pilot. Is it the 5004 steel or white gold or another of the several excellent members of the BP family ?

For your concerns - its difficult to comment - best is if you feel that is different from previous experiences take it into your IWC AD if possible and get it checked out.

Well, since this issue was stopping me from fully enjoying the watch i made a quick visit to my dealer. It seems that i have to apply a bit more force than what i am used to with the other watches that i have like an offshore or a breilting chronomat. I even showed me his rolex daytona zenith crown and i had a bit of trouble to release it.
Guess i am bit of a sissy when it comes to watches :)

    Glad it worked out....

One reason why, technically, service issues aren't forum topics is because we can't fully evaluate many problems electronically. This is a classic example of a problem being solved with a simple physical inspection.

    I'm glad --and good luck,
    Michael

Hi Rui, congrats on your BP >>>>>

Before I screw down any crown, I push it down and turn the crown slightly backwards to allow the crown thread to engage and then while still depressing the crown, I turn it in the right direction.
