    Hi all,

Figured I would share my first blunder with other new IWC owners out there.

Abit of history in my case I use to wear a TagHeuer and got a IWC Spitfire, with a leather strap. It being better looking and the leather strap just made wearing in the office much nicer(IMO).

Where I am it rains almost 3-4 times a week (Kuala Lumpur).now the mistake..
Came out from my gym and it started pouring and it's not the light shower but the cats and dogs type... Well being the noob I was, I ran straight to my car with out the taught of a raincoat or an umbrella.

The leather strap was soaked and it expanded... Had to replace this after having it for only 2 months, lesson here is.. Mind what you do with the hand you wear your beloved watch with... I now carry an ipad on my left hand and if it rains i use it to cover over my IWC...

    All the best,
    Tan

My biggest mistake has been being too hasty when readjusting the time after the watch had been three weeks on 'rest' because of our holiday. Because Ididn't want it too cause unwanted attention from pickpockers in Florence for my Spitfire Laureus. I had left it in our safe at home. When I came home the watch had stopped at almost midnight so I had to readjust time first to let the date move automatically before I could move date and day. Unfortunately I had pulled the knob to the first click and not the second. You can guess what happened next; everything got stuck. Completely blocked. Cost me 600 euros to repair

Hmm, always shameful moments. More than five years ago, when I still didn't have that handy IWC three watch travelling case, I used to wrap my watches each in bubbly plastic and put the package in a zipped top inside pocket of my coat. Nothing wrong with that really, quite robust and nobody noticed. At one sad late afternoon, after returning from my holiday, I grabbed the packages out of my pocket, but apparently did not have a full grip on one of them: it fell on the floor dropping 1,5 meter. Bubbly plastic or not, my Saint Exupéry Chrono looked awful, the big seconds hand in some strange position, the whole watch not running. The next day I went to the AD, at that time still an IWC AD. After eight weeks the watch returned in full glory, at no cost!

    Kind regards,
    Paul

    Funny post :)

15 days ago, more or less, I fell off of my scooter, while driving office. No injuries except for my pride.

I'm used to wear watches while driving, first thing I checked after having got up from the ground, was the watch (not IWC), it was totally undamaged.

I thought it never happened to me to tumble down, wearing an IWC.

So, the lesson learnt is: wear IWC more often and always while driving! LOL!

No mistake so far, although, as you can see, I went very close.

    :)

Discovering that two women who partially block a path whilst having a chat cost more than frustration! So now I know not to brush against brickwork with a steel 3714 Portuguese which to me has an enormous scratch on the top part of the case near 11.

My biggest mistake was not buying a new Ingenieur 322701 at my AD here in Alkmaar but getting a used one. It needed an expensive repair which made the deal less favorable.

I also found out that the steel of the Ingenieur is softer than a marble sink. When I took off the watch to put it down on the sink, it fell and dented the case a bit. The Ingenieur has also been smashed into a door frame while I was wearing it on my right wrist after I injured my left hand.

Other than that one of my watches fell on the wooden floor from a mere 30 cm, luckily without any visible signs or problems and it's still running fine.

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

The biggest mistake I ever made with an IWC was.....

selling it! Yeah, I've bought dozens, and sold many to fund others. I can name a number of them that I now wonder how I could part with them. But the thrill of the hunt, the catch and release program, well, it was a very enjoyable way of life for me before I finally settled down.

Fortunately, I have never seriously damaged any of my IWC's.

My biggest mistake was not buying the blue dial PPC, when it was first introduced. It was offered to me by a NYC AD at a very attractive price. Like Dick I have not damaged any watches to date.

    Great topic!

I made (at least) 2 big mistakes: Not buying a 666 and selling the Jones calibre.

The best use for an ipad I've heard in a long time. :)

The biggest mistake I made was showing my vintage collection to my daughter. :)

Several years ago I took a watch to a repair shop to correct a power reserve problem. I tried to save a few bucks by bypassing the authorized service center because the watch was way out of warranty.
Well, the repair was obviously too difficult for them as the whole mechanism failed after 24 hours. Took it to an AD and got the proper service and a like new watch. I did not even try to get a refund from the service shop. Wasn't worth the effort and arguing.

I usually wait for something to go wrong before taking a watch for service.

Biggest mistake I made was with my first IWC. Took it off to try on another IWC. That was a number of watches ago.
