When I was at the boutique last week to pickup a strap, Jan was kind enough to bring out some wonderful playthings. First up was a Mystère Tourbillon Retrograde. I could watch the tourbillon for quite some time (in fact, I did) and the retrograde date was a lot of fun to play with. Next came a skeletonized beauty, the movement wonderfully decorated. I don't think I could wear that watch but I enjoyed studying the movement with a loupe.

Next up, a Pure Classic. I had never before appreciated how thin it is. A very nice watch and one that I would very happily wear. This was followed by a Vintage Collection Portuguese. I like this watch much more in the metal than in photos. And finally, the latest tribute to St. Expury, in steel with tobacco dial. That one really grabbed me. For me, it would be difficult to choose between that and the 3878. Of course, there are a great many similarities.

Big thanks to the boutique staff -- and Jan in particular -- for the wonderful treatment.

It's always a highlight of the day whenever I'm in NYC. It's wonderful to finally have a boutique in the Big Apple.

Wonderful watches indeed, how nice to be able to see them in real life.

The new Saint Exupéry Chrono would have been a real candidate for me instead of the Spitfire Chrono if I wouldn't have owned the old rose gold Saint Exupéry Chrono already: the similarities would have been too big.

As for the rose gold Vintage Collection Portuguese, I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it at its presentation in Schaffhausen 2009. I wear it right now, by the way, and in my opinion is about one of the most beautiful watches around. Personnaly, I prefer it over the Pure Classic: thin and light enough, and just a bit more play on the dial.

The skeletonised Portuguese is a gem, really special. Apart from its price, it is a watch I cannot see myself wearing, like at work. But it is to be admired no end, certainly when it runs. Looking at some of them for quite some time at the SIHH 2008 made me miss the group photo.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

Unfortunately there is no IWC Boutique in Germany. Dear IWC, I vote for a Boutique in Düsseldorf:-)

Great post - and indeed a boutique visit it always a wonderful experience as my last visit to the Singapore ION boutique proved. Thanks for sharing.

And whilst I truly sympathize with Giovanni's sentiment for a Dusseldorf Boutique, I actually don't really care for his vote on this one - We should get a Boutique in Amsterdam first. Besides, the way he drives he could probably get to the Amsterdam boutique a lot quicker than I could to the Dusseldorf one ...LOL :~)

Mark - I didn't realize that you are in Amsterdam. My family and I will be there next week.

According to Google Maps, the drive from Düsseldorf to Amsterdam is 2:32. For Giovanni, with a watch waiting at the other end, that translates to about 45 minutes. :)

LoL - Ok, I would accept as well Amsterdam, but only if Mark would drive again with me in such a situation as the one we had. Seeing his green face was marvelous
