Contrarian's view: GMTs-no way, but retrogrades, yes

i'm with you richard...

it's not just about time or function or complication.
it's about the piece. the package and the passion.
if a retrograde floats your boat then it's a worthwhile complication.

Paul Gerber is who I was thinking of

when you mentioned the retrorade. I am fortunate to have seen them in person (I have one of the few, maybe only, US dealers close by) and Paul's retrogrades are gorgeous - as is his spherical moon display and twin rotors. His watches, however, are just a little small for my taste.

Well...the GMT is indeed limited. But so is the price. IWC could cover both markets if they will make both.

I agree 100%. I had an IWC UTC that

I never warmed up to. Had a UN GMT that in my opinion was the easiest two time zone watch to set of all but I didn't use the function and it was really just one more window to look at.

Now a retrograde would be terrific - especially if on the seconds function! What fun to watch! It's almost hypnotic.

I could make it through most any boring meeting or waiting for a plane if I could just watch that little gem do its thing every 60 seconds.

I've been wanting one for a long time and have been keeping my eyes open for just the right one. If it said IWC on the dial it would be at the top of my list!

But I found GMT function probably the only function that really could be "useful" today...when we really dont use watches to ask/tell the time...

I see all the other complication useful too...and with the only reason to add character or technicall challenges to each piece.

No really need of minute repetition...or retrogrades, or moon phases...chrono functions, fourouyant...and so on. BUT...they are incredible machines we love to watch!

And I think ist all about this!

Aviation flies on Zulu time. GMTs or UTCs if you prefer are very useful to aviators.

Here, home, UTC

Some time ago I thought a special travel watch needed three time zones, called here, home and UTC. It further needed date and day, because travel scedules may differ in the weekend. And an alarm, so that you rise on time, not to miss your flight.

Totally agree!...

More than one time I almost buy a GMT, including a classic pilot UTC, because I really like the watch. But the idea that I am paying for a useless complication made me avoid the purchase at last time and look for another option.

I would love a IWC retrograde. For minutes and seconds, WOW that will be absolutely stunning. But I have not seen this complication in an IWC. Does any bodyknow why?
