I was curious about the terminology of crossed out crystal used by IWC to described the raised crystal on the Vintage Collection Portofino. I have called this a domed crystal. In any case, I was driving around town today getting some Duvel Ale for the 4th of July (thinking of you Tonny) and I glanced at my Vintage Collection Portofino and saw the real definition seen here.

My Der Doppel Chronograph has a similar domed crystal as well.

    Thanks for viewing,

    Bill

PS Happy Independence Day to all the USA forum members,

    That glass is a winner

So, these watches are vintage, yet in some respects they are almost brand new. These glasses seem to be difficult to make and quite expensive too, so they are a real bonus, and very fitting, giving these watches an extra vintage look. You with your Portofino, I with my Portuguese soon (it arrived, but I will collect it in early August) have then such special watches. O yes, I like that Swiss Made detail you show here.

Continue to have fun with your watch. Were you stopped at work or elsewhere by people who wanted to know about your watch? I was today, about the watch I am wearing now.

    Kind regards,
    Paul wearing Saint Exupéry Chrono

i believe that the 3711's domed crystal...

...was one reason why the watch was redesigned and became Ref. 3713. I believe. although I don't have definite verification, that the domed saphire crystal on the Ref. 3711 was too expensive and difficult to obtain.

Is this a different type domed crystal>>>

than the one in the 3711? If there were concerns before, I would bet IWC has found a better supplier or method to produce. I have read the same thing in the archives about the 3711 and its evolution to the 3713.
