I'm wondering if anyone could tell me why sometime I see a flat silver dial and sometime a wavy textured dial on the Da Vinci watch? I haven't really noticed the difference until lately. Does it have anything to do with the authenticity or the year made? Thank you very much.
I don't know what you really mean by "when you see" - do you mean photos on this website? On other web sites? Or trying on the watches at an authorized IWC retailer?
If you're referring to the recent, updated DaVinci line (with Tonneau-shaped cases) which was announced/released in 2007 - those watches have all have "guilloche" dials. The guilloche pattern is inspired by shapes and fountain pen scribbles found throughout Leonardo's writings - one such pattern, which appeared in the "codex" of publications is what appears in the chrono and perpetual calendars. The Lady's DaVinci or Automatic has a starlike, spiral pattern.

I must admit, now I think I realize what you meant.
The mystery of Leonardo DaVinci and his works was the inspiration for many aspects of the design of the watch - including the dial.
When you hold the watch at different angles, the surface seems flat. However, it is deep with features that play with the light and offer you a variety of tones and textures.
Actually, early ones had flat silver dial. Later, there was an unannounced change to dials with the engraved stripes.
Thank you very much both of you for your quick responses. I bought the watch about 4 months ago, but it was a stock watch. I bought it from a formal authorized dealer (Rocks Fine Jeweller) in Florida, USA with a pretty good discount. They tried to get rid of it (last IWC in store) because they couldn't maintain the IWC license due to low demand for IWC watches in USA. They are also authorized to sell many luxury watches such as Carl Bucherer, Ball, Roger Dubuis, UN, etc. So, I had no doubt that they were selling fake watches. The watch was dated 2007 and come with all the proper documents and boxes. Thanks again because at least I know that IWC does actually make it with a flat silver dial.

Santikorn, what the dealer told you about sales was incorrect. iWC is revoking he licenses of minor dealers in the US which have poor sales or do not pay quickly or otherwise are considered undesirable. They can't get enough watches available to sell, and they need to let many of the minor ones go. Last year, IWC in North America had a record year, with significant double-digit growth and was among the best of major watch brands in the US.
Thank you very much Michael. I think I'm just worrying about the authenticity of the watch after I've seen a lot of pictures with the textured dial on the websites.
