Spent time at the Zurich boutique this weekend. I had several missions there, chief among them, trying to decide on my next watch. The candidates were the steel Vintage Inge and the Portuguese Automatic silver/blue.

At the boutique, I was greeted and helPed by a very friendly and knowledgable young woman named Nicole. She brought out the watches in question as well as the new brown Inge. I tried each on about 23 times. Then my wife arrived and it was time to solicit opinions. My wife and Nicole both thought the Inge looked better on my wrist. As for me, I was completely undecided. I left and was tortured by thoughts of which to get. Fortunately, before driving myself insane, I decided that I would return on Monday and throw the 5001-09 into the mix as well -- an example of questionable logic: when unable to reach a decision, increase the number of options.

    i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh590/hdmathias/IMG_0571.jpg

So this morning I returned and had a go with the 3233-01, 5001-07 and 5001-09. I think that the silver/blue has gone by the wayside but the other two choices are both calling to me. I'm stumped. The 5001 is a special watch and I know it is in the collections of many of you. The Inge is just beautiful and will become increasingly difficult to get. I think it's a head/heart question: my head says Inge and my heart says Portuguese. Short of an unexpected windfall, I have to choose (buying both is not an option). I'm certain that this kind of torture is against the Geneva Conventions.

    David,

Just my two cents but I think at this time in the product life cycles of both these watches I would go with the steel Vintage Inge, to me it is a beautiful dress watch. But whichever way you go you can't go wrong.
    Enjoy your decision.

    Kevin

PS Thanks for your help on Saturday, I'm making a call to Nicole shortly.

David, I need to +1 Kevin's response on this one.

I know it's difficult. I waited far to long myself to add the 5001 to my collection, but Kevin is spot on with his remark about life cycle etc. You already write yourself, that that Inge is going to start getting scarce too and I think you are right on that.

    Go Inge!

Kevin - you're in sync with my head and with the two lovely women who shared their opinions. If only my heart would get on board.

As for the AT, happy I could help. At first she told me that she didn't think she had one. Then when she returned from the back with the 5001 she also had the AT. I was very excited and asked if she minded if I emailed you right away. I hope it works out.

I add my +2 to Kevin's recommendation. I have the VC Inge and it gets quite a bit of wrist time because of its versatility.

Count that as three votes for the Inge !

Vishal, I'm surprised you haven't acquired the fourth & latest (brown) one yet. C'mon we're all waiting to see that and the quadruple shot! LOL...

David, sounds like you are going to end up with two in the long term and the Inge will be harder to get in the future, so go for that one for now =)

    Regards,
    Thang

A surprising degree of unanimity so far - and a total lack of regard for what my heart wants. :) I can't argue with the logic, particularly since that's what is in my head as well. Thanks all for your thoughts.

I'm certainly open to hearing more opinions.

Easy choice: Go for your heart. A watch like this is, in my humble opinion, always a matter of heart, nothing else.

For me, it would pretty clearly be the Portugese. Great watch! The only con would be the non-existent luminova...

    Cheers
    Peter

From the two, I would go for the Inge. From the three however, I would go for the white dial 5001 :-)

    Kind regards,

You all gave me very sound advice. The Inge will become harder to find while the Portuguese isn't going anywhere. The more I thought about it, however, the more I realized that the 5001 is what I really want. If I got the Inge, I knew that I would still long for the 5001 and that's no way to feel when buying a watch.

So, this evening I bought a gently used 5001-09. I hope to have it by the middle of next week. And despite the fact that I completely ignored the collective wisdom, I really do appreciate all of the thoughtful input.

    Photos to follow after arrival.

    Hello,

Good choice, the Ingenieur is nice but nothing compares to be movement of the 5001.

    Have fun,

Congratulations David, a great choice. I really liked my 500107 and if it wasn't for a major upgrade to the Portuguese Perpetual, it would still have been firmly in my collection!
