Sorry if this question has been already addressed but Im looking into the new posts after SIHH and can't find the answer.
    What are the differences?
I don't see anything special in the tech highlights at the website...

    Thanks in advance.

I believe there is a difference in the way the stem of the crown is connected to the movement. Probably an improvement in stability. But the two watches look identical.

OK...thats a nice information...thanks. So the movement remains the same?

    The movement is the same.

There are some statements on another Internet site saying "I talked to an IWC rep and if I recall there are these differences..." That "information" is completely incorrect.

On the case, the problem was that the large crown can provide a lot of torque when screwing it in. Some people really forcefully could strip the threads, impairing water resistance. While no system can avoid all abuse, the new winding mechanism better avoids this.

Another way to put it: IWC released a model with a weak stem, realized this, upgraded the model so their customer service stop from being slammed with complains and decided to jack up the price of the watch by US $700 to offset their R&D cost to their new customers; while instead, they should have recalled the watch for a fix. What's worse is that many dealers still have the 5004 out there and they claim to sell it to you for lower than the updated price in the catalog. What a farce!

It is called improvement: no matter how hard you try, not everything is instantly right, and like here, the need for improvement was found out after a while, I guess. It wasn't designed less than perfect on purpose. But you should know how this works: you had to correct your message too.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

Yes, thanks for the information. I asked myself recently about the differences between those two.

    Cheers Chris
