Wander into my local jeweler and they will gladly grab your precious timepiece, polish it lightly and steam it clean. They often return it to you still hot from the process.
I wonder if this is really a good thing to do with a watch. And following this along, why couldn't I just put it in the dishwasher at home?

Dishwasher....NO WAY! and
I would not let anyone steam clean my watches. First, I have no idea what steam might do to a watch with a low water resistant rating. And even for a dive watch, why chance some steam getting past an O ring that has not been replaced for a few years.
I don't believe that IWC steam cleans your watch when you return it for service.

NO...
50 C and no soap or rinse aid and it would probably survive. But any wamer and you will damage the seals. Prolonged exposure to detergent and rinse aid will also permanently damage the rubber seals.
So all in all probably not a good experiment.
