    Hello IWC lovers

I have owned many different ICW models over the past decade but I am about to jump back in time and buy a 3713 Doppelchronograph! This was my dream watch circa 2000 but at the time it was way outside of my budget. Hopefully some of you that know this Ref better can answer my questions.

-Is the height of the watch 15mm, 16mm or 17mm? I have seen all three listed in various places. Unfortuantely I can't try the watch on before I buy it so getting a sense for it's true size is important. I had a 3786 ceramic and it was certainly a chunky beast!

-Is this model robust enough to wear daily for activities such as skiing and casual bike rides to the coffee shop? My understanding is that the 7750 movement can take a beating but does adding the Doppel over top make it more fragile?

-Once the Doppelchronograph moved from Ref 3711 to Ref 3713 were any further changes made or are all 3713s identical regardless of production date?

-Is there an accepted guideline for how often this model needs to be returned to IWC for servicing? I am less worried about water resistance because I would never (intentionally) swim with it.

    Hi R332,
The case height is 16.20 mm. Your 3786 was 17.10 mm
The watch is Very robust. The Doppel mechanism is as strong as the movement it is integrated with.
The first 3713's had clear sapphire crystals. A few years into production, anti-reflective coated sapphire crystals were fitted as standard. The clear crystals are no longer available, should the crystal need to be replaced during service.
There have been no other changes to either the case or movement throughout the production lifetime of 3713 so they are all identical.
IWC recommend servicing your watch every 5 years.

    Leo,

Thank you so much for the reply. I was beginning to wonder if there was no love for the ol' Doppel amongst the members of this forum.

Between when I posted the questions and today I grew impatient and bought a used 3713 and it is due to arrive later this week. I am happy to hear that it will be a bit slimmer than my old 44mm ceramic 3786 and that it is a robust watch.

Now the big question is whether I fit a black leather strap or the Kevlar/nyon strap from the ceramic models. My view is that the Doppel is more of a tool watch than a luxury watch which is why I feel the Kevlar strap would suit it well.

The 3713 and its predecessor the 3711 have many friends among collectors. I happen to own a 3711 and it's a real classic for additional reasons. I prefer mine on the SS Beads of Rice Bracelet.

    That is a beauty Bill.

I know that many purists prefer the 3711 but I am happy with the slightly more modern looking 3713.

Mine actually has the bracelet but I want to move to a strap. But which one...?

    Dear Bill B.

Can you tell me what the Pilot Chronograph is that you have as your signature pic?

    thank you!

It is the CF#, or the 3rd Collectors' Forum Watch.

Here is the back side . The original watch belong to a fellow Collector Forum Member, Giovanni, who passed away at a very early age. I had the good fortune to acquire it and add my name and keep his name on the case back as my memory of him.

I also wear it with this strap:

And with the original leather strap that came with the CF3.
