    Hi,
I have had a Portuguese Rattrapante for about 15 years. Two years ago I did a complete overhaul on the watch for about U$S720. Recently the watch was not working ok, so I brought it to the service (another official one, the original one was not working anymore). Anyway, the second service told me the watch needs lubrication and another full service. They quoted my U$S1092.

It seems unreasonably to have a full service only two years apart, but assuming the first service was not done properly. Is U$S1092 the correct amount of money for such a service? Seems really a lot.

    Thanks for your comments.

    Regards!
    Martin

It seems that after a full service you get a guarantee for 2 years. The full service is supposed to last for at least 5 years, but after 2 years the cost for mishaps are for you.

I read that at a full service the whole watch is disassembled, the parts are cleaned, so-so parts are replaced, the watch is reassembled, the appropriate parts are lubricated. Maybe I forgot something, but a highly trained professional is busy with it for an hour or two. The watch has to be packaged twice, and sent in and out. And a decent profit must be made. So yes, it is a bit more expensive than the usual plumber job in your toilet.

I always say: if you can afford the watch, you can also afford the service cost. It is a bit steep, but understanding what is done makes it clear that it at least is not extraordinary. It sucks, though, if it seems to be necessary again after 2 years, you might want to negociate this with your AD.

    Kind regards,
    Paul
