    Good day to all,

Like so many others I recently had the pleasure to have my first IWC experience.

For a while I had been thinking to get me a first ‘nice’ watch, but somehow I never could make up my mind about which one it should be. Until mid June, when I left on home leave to Belgium, I saw the latest IWC Aquatimer in Brussels airport. Despite that It immediately appealed to me I didn’t purchase it.

Since that moment I could not get it out of my head and after one week I really had regrets for not having bought it. The following days I was in Paris and decided to go and look for it.. but when I found it the price was 25% more than the price I got in the airport… so I got cold feet and went back empty handed.

After Paris I had 2 more weeks in Belgium.. but after being there for 2 days I decided to go to the IWC AD there to take another look at the watch. By the time I reached the shop I had made up my mind… If they have the Aquatimer in stock I will not go away without it. I was so fixed on it that I hardly looked at any other watch.

So to make a long story short.. I got me the Aquatimer and have been proudly wearing it since the day I go it and I am super happy with it.

Strangely enough since I’m wearing it I also started looking with much more interest at watches and I’ve been reading much more about watches. This lead me to start thinking of getting a second watch. I’m in particular interest in the IWC Portuguese Chronograph (refernce 3714) or alternatively I am thinking about the new released Jaeger Lecoultre Geophysic 1958.
I know.. these are 2 completely different style of watches… but I think both of the are very nice.
And yes I still love my Aquatimer.. this definitely still is my first choice.

Now I read that the calibre of the JLC Geophysic is of a much higher quality than the Portugieser. Does anyone of this forum has some insight on this?

    Kind regards,
    Dirk

Congrats Dirk for you very 1st IWC timepiece with Aquatimer collection.

I've got my 1st IWC 6 months back with Le Petit Prince chrono and my second IWC with CF3 3 months after the 1st one. So I believe you will get your second IWC very soon. :)

    Enjoy your timepiece!

    Congratulations Dirk!

Great choice - I love that Aquatimer too. The simplicity, clarity, depth of the dial, visible lume on the minute hand - it comes together so well. Plus, there's the versatility of a bracelet as well.

Enjoy it mate and wear in good health!

Excellent first up pick! Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you will enjoy wearing the Aquatimer and I'm pretty confident it won't be your last IWC. No chance!!!

3714 is a classic timepiece, in fact is quite popular for the value of money and chrono feature. But if you are looking for in house movement do consider 5007 with 7 days power reserve.

The 3714 with its 79350 is a great classic watch, probably the most classic IWC design, that is still in production. And the 79350 is a fantastic movement which is running exactly, very reliable, very few problems.
If you like the watch from the heart there is no better value for money than that one. I used to have it for some years and were very happy with it.

When I sold it, it was not because of the movement but I wanted to get something else from IWC and needed that money.

So I can truly recommend that watch.

PS: Your Aquatimer is a fantastic watch too. I still need one, figuring out which.

Thanks for sharing your experiences on the reference 3714 / 79350 calibre!
I was in the flagship store in Sao Paulo yesterday afternoon and had one in hands.. still in doubt though... as the neighbours of JLC also put a nice master ultra thin (Pink gold) on my arm. I went there to try on the new Geophysic, but unfortunately they did not have it in stock. But they definitely put forward a nice alternative.. never thought I would like the Ultra Thin ... but when you have it on... it's stunning.
Still... I continue to look at the 3714
