I purchased a used UTC TZC. It is in mint condition and is a perfect watch for me. I fly professionally and use Zulu time constantly and also change time zones daily.

Are there any precautions on setting the watch? Often I see discussion about "don't set between these hours", "don't turn a certain way". this is my first mechanical watch and I don't wish to damage in any manner.

    Thank you.

Hi JerseyGeorge and welcome to the Forum with your lovely Fliegeruhr UTC

The date change blackout time between 9pm and 2am only applies to using the quick set date function ie crown position 2. (That is unscrewed crown, pulled out 1 click from winding position.)
You can ALWAYS change the time and therefore date while advancing the hands in position 3

This is the normal setup for IWC watches.
Position 0 - crown screwed down.
Position 1 - unscrewed crown, winding position.
    Position 2 - quickset date.
Position 3 - time setting position.

The UTC is slightly different and there is a crown position that controls only the hour hand and date which can be moved backwards and forwards to adjust for a different time zone.

    Enjoy your IWC :-)

    Hi,

I own the very same watch since it was launched and still love it!

Given that's it purposely build to deal with time change (and indeed the date follows the time changes through the hour hand / position 2 of the crown), I change the time on this watch any time of day without being afraid of doing damage.

    Hi JerseyGeorge,
congratulations on your purchase and welome to the forum.
This is a great watch and there are no "forbidden" times for the date change as this is the idea of the module. I've just had mine back from the spa (this picture was taken before)and now it is as well in mint condition. I love this watch.

There not only is no forbidden zone here, you can even set the time, and date, backwards! Under some exceptional circumstances this may happen in practice, but you never need to worry, whatever changes you need at whatever time. Enjoy your beauty!

    Kind regards,
    Paul

Hi All, this is my 1st post in this forum, and I am also new to IWC.

I just got myself a pre-owned UTC TZC. While the casing is in excellent condition, I found it to be about 25 seconds fast per day.

So, I would like to check with members here whether that is within the acceptable range of the movement? Can that be improved if I bring it in for a tune-up?

    Thanks in advance.

    Michael

Hi Michael and welcome to the forum.
+25 seconds is far too fast, I'd recommend a SPA treat at your local IWC
Boutique or via IWC Schaffhausen. It's worth every penny and your beautiful UTC TZC will be as new.

    Hi Tom,

Thank you for your reply! I am sending the watch to IWC for servicing.

    Thanks again,

    Hi Mark,
the picture was taken in Tanzania in November 2014. I try to be in Africa as often as possible. Love it and this watch is always with me.
