As Skule suggests, I like the idea of a VC Portuguese.
As Skule suggests, I like the idea of a VC Portuguese.
A simple model in Pilot line with dial in Grey (just like CFI) will be great.
back engraving mentioning it's a CF watch with (one out of XX) is ok, this would make things easier when watches are being ordered and delivered.
Very well done, I am totally with you: go ahead with this one! Maybe with the ardoise sunburst dial colour like the Spitfire Chrono, if at all possible with the numbers and markers used, to make it stand out: wonderful. Or would that be too beautiful? As for the not in-house movement: I wouldn't care, this watch would just as much be an IWC watch as the regular versions are.
Kind regards,
Paul
I would rather have that nice logo engraved on the back of the watch.
A pilots watch would be very nice, with engraving. As your dear and beloved Moderator is doing such a wonderful job, how do you think about a "MF" edition (similar as the KK one)? Michael, don't be shy - there are a lot of collectors who would support that idea!
Alan,
You know I'm in!
I would favor any pilot watch with what else a blue dial.
Let me know what else you need from me to get this accomplished.
Regards,
Kevin
I'm late to this worthy discussion. I slept too late I guess. Having missed the CFI Inge and passed on the CFDV, I definitely intend to jump on the next offering even if I have to be on Lin at midnight or six am to register ;).
My preference would be a GMT Worldtimer with an ardoise dial and a collectors' forum insignia of some sort on the dial. The case should be no less than 42 mm, bigger is even better for me I particularly endorse engraving the owner's name on the case back. That was a negative of the CFDV. Engraving one's name truly makes it special. I would prefer sequentially numbering the LE on the reverse,if possible, not just xxx of xxxx on the rotor.
Just to comment again: IWC can't fabricate a case not in current production for the watch; it is too costly and interrupts the complex logistics of supply and production schedules. It can't design a new 40mm case nor resurrect a discontinued one. Impractical wish list suggestions frankly bog down any consensus process.
Sorry --I'm not trying to be the grinch who stole Christmas, it's just a constraint.
Also, thanks, but no MF watch. It's not about me. If anything there should be a Hannes Pantli model. He's been a true friend of collectors for 40 years. But I think the only name should be the purchaser's name. :)
Worldtimer for me - it's on my 2012 Christmas list!
AJHM.
I would go for a VC Inge./Portuguese with special engarving on the back and numbering.
Idealy it should look like a classic one with a touch of novelty, maybe on the tip of the seconds hand or on the dial itslef.
I would rather have the word Automatic at the front, not the logo shown: although symbolic, it is, well, not too pretty, it would ruin the simple design of the dial shown.
Kind regards,
Paul
I'd be in if it was affordable, a higher price point would price me out. I love the idea of a Pilot Mark, Jiipee's idea looks great!
Dear members,
I would suggest a list price of the all the possible models for the majority to narrow down to a 'family line' and model and to come to a consensus. That way, we will not be just merely stating our wishlist and we could be gaining some headway pretty soon.
Just my 2 cents worth ;)
I would suggest a Mark XVII case, Mark XII dial and no date. Engraving the owners name would be nice.
I am for a SS Portugues or Portofino but only if the IWC is written in full script on the dial like this MR and the price was right
.
I like MFs idea of a special world timer. How about one with a blue dial!
OK, I started this....
It seems like we have a ton of interest since we have over 800 views in less than 14 hours!
I think a few things are clear. If we pick an existing reasonably priced model and vary the dial along with some reference to the Collectors Forum and include an individually named person engraving we have the best chance to get IWC to produce a fine limited edition.
From the posts I have read it appears that a version of the Mark XVII or the Worldtimer are the most logical choices.
If IWC could vary the dial, perhaps the ardoise sunburst or perhaps a blue ( ok,ok, I know its my preference) I think we can gain some consensus and go with it.
MF...am I on the right track?
Brilliant idea. Thanks Alan!
I would definitively be interested and like the suggestions posted so far.
Looking forward to seeing where this goes.
I would even volunteer to go to Schaffhausen to look at design samples ;)
