Hey guys, Missed out on a lot of discussions. Been in & out a bit. Just a thought. Like the 5001, we could have a white dial with a blue leather strap, blue hands, etc. with day/date. It would be awesome. MK
This is great. I'm excited to see what IWC will propose given all the different ideas that have been presented here. A distinguishing mark is definitely needed, be it a different color scheme than what is already in the collection, mark on the dial/strap, or even just a special engraving on the caseback or movement. I'm in love with just about every white dial watch that IWC has produced. For reasons due to cost and the attraction of simple elegance, I'm in agreement with the suggestions of using the Mark XVII, Ingeneiur VC, or even the Vintage AT as a base.
Also, I think MF hit it right on the mark. I don't think we can expect IWC to discount these, which is part of the reason why I hope that the watch will be based on the ones mentioned above. A lot of work has to be done to make a small run of a watch like this and charging full retail is more than reasonable. My only concern is how these watches are allocated, as there is no doubt that are more collectors in want of such a watch than there are actual watches. I've seen more than my share of angry collectors on other forums who wanted LE or SE watches from other companies.
Guys, If we are over a 1000 members in the forum, why not have a special edition watch, like the Laureus Sports for Good Foundation only for the Forum Members. It will be one from the present collection, minute changes, good cause & a Special Edition for the forum members. Your Feedback & Comments. MK
Given Herr Kern's statement at SIHH, in this instance, I believe no news is actually good news. I suspect that we won't hear any more until IWC formulates a workable plan with specific parameters for success.
IWC has a well defined organization break down structure by 'Family', so presumably one of IWC's first considerations may be, which Family? Perhaps Pilot because of the year, perhaps not.
It's difficult to keep updated with this many posts. I'm sure that we are quite a few sitting on needles only waiting for news on this exciting project.
Regarding which model to choose many suggestions have been aired.
A pilots watch (Mark XVII) would be an obvious choise but also the Ingenieur and the Vintage Aquatimer could potentially act as a Forum Watch due to the design and price with a wide appeal.
I would think that since this is the year of the pilot, IWC would NOT allow a pilot watch to be the CF watch. Simply because of any chance of cannibalising sales of these new pilot watches to their best fan base (i.e. if some of us were planning to buy a soon to be released pilot watch, we might reconsider if we knew a collector's forum pilot watch was in the pipeline)....
Would this be in line with the previous CF watches? (like the last CF watch, the da vinci - was it definitely not a year of the da vinci?)
teeveetee- I don't think there's a concern with cannibalizing sales; the broader issue is that production schedules are already set. Several pilot's watches are being considered, but also 2013 models might be considered.
At this stage, I don't know what works, but I hope it will be both special and accessible.
