    I doubt that...

I think many other brands also come with AR coating since the advantages are bigger than the inconveniences for most of the watch-owners.

I think the financial situation is of much bigger influence to the current number of pre-owned watches on the market nowadays.

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

Hmmmm - would you also buy a red Ferrari and then paint it another colour?
I don't understand your way of thinking!

    me too

... the overwhelming replies here, in favor of the anti-reflective coatings, candidly surprised me....not because they're wrong but because all but two really like them. Based on that unscientific sampling, I believe Jean's conjecture that people sell their watches because they don't like the coating is wrong, other than in a few isolated cases. His standards aren't at all wrong for him --to each his own-- but there is no evidence of universality.

I like the glass as it is

It is high quality glass, where the anti reflecting coating makes sure that you can see dial and hands very clearly under quite some angles and light circumstances. The blue hue is less noticeable than the white one, which is great, as with my glasses. Some of the VC series watches have a very nice shape making it look like plexi, giving the watches a vintage feeling, but then wich state-of-the-art materials and properties. For me, this is IWC all the way.

    Kind regards,
Paul, wearing steel VC Pilot's watch

    In principle Vintage re-editions...

...should not have the anti-reflective coating but for most other watches I think that it is rather desirable since it improves readability and provides subtle colours changes to a clear dial which will depend on the light conditions.

For the diving watches I have always wondered if the coating applied on the saphire external face was suitable for immersion in sea water, swimming pool water, shower water, etc... for long periods without being affected.

    Chromatic aberrations...

...have nothing to do with the anti-reflective coating but rather with the surface finish of an optical lens which may have sphericity deffects leading to optical distorsions.
