Over the past week, I have been getting used to my new Grosse Ingenieur Chronograph - I had it on the original black strap, and I was getting used to it.

I originally set out to get it on a brown strap, and my Authorized IWC Dealer (did I mention, they are awesome) had a few brown IWC straps in stock, but the color was not perfect. He worked with IWC North America to hand-select the best dye-color and it just came in this morning.

Here's another photo of the watch with the black strap - for comparison....

Thanks Richard for the great photos. When will ...

you be getting the bracelet! I have said many times before that I enjoy watches that are versatile. Being able to change strap colors and to have it look great either way is a real plus in my opinion. Thanks again.

It is a beauty. Does it wear smaller than a Big Pilot?

    Thanks again,
    Jeff

    This combination looks amazingly sharp

I understand why the black strap is standard, but with the brown one the watch looks much more versatile, that strap really brings out the watch much better. Certainly when you are not in a suite this combination is a winner.

    Greetings from cool Toronto...

where it is 30 degrees cooler than when I left Texas. I like them both but also prefer the dark brown! Either way, it is a beautiful watch!

    Best regards,
    Jim

Sure. IWC does not make a darker brown....

Before this year, IWC used to have a "chocolate" brown strap option - which is what I prefer. Chocolate brown is similar to what I have for my 5022 Portuguese Perpetual, and you'd see on many of the white-gold models - however, I learned this "dye lot" is no longer available - at least for the Ingenieur.

The IWC distribution staff in NYC worked with my AD to "hand select" the darkest strap in the North American inventory - so, sorry everyone - I have the darkest brown strap for the Grosse Ingeneiur.

    ...and my AD rocks.

Time does what IWC doesn't do anymore

What Richard mentioned before with his red gold Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar I experience with the watch I wear now: the strap gets darker with time, in a very nice way. But a bit darker brown strap with a black dial looks indeed even better.

    Kind regards,
Paul, wearing red gold VC Portuguese

    We need more strap changing....

for IWC watches. That brown strap shows how the look of a watch can be enhanced just by changing the strap. The new AT line allows for easy strap changing but its unlikely that you would do anything other than switch back and forth to a bracelet.

I am evolving from a "liker to a lover"

of this watch the more I see it nicely captured by you.

I am looking for a bigger watch for my collection and I hope I dont get too tempted away from a BP.

    I can understand your dilemma

I saw both watches at the Collector's Meeting, the Big Pilot was the winner then. Now I am not so sure anymore, the Inge has a lot to be discovered. I wonder what you will do.
