another fairly silly question. My GST Chrono Ti, the watch that got me started and was my daily watch for many years, has the case and particularly the bracelet with many scratchs, marks, etc. I've had the watch serviced regularly (at Superior in NYC) but am wondering what, if any, my options for having the scratches removed. Is it possible with titanium? Any thoughts/suggestions?

I had my titanium GST ppc serviced last year. IWC managed to make the case and bracelet to look like new. Only exeption were two rather deep dings on the bezel. As I recall they did sent the watch to Schaffhausen were the have a machine to do this kind of work on titanium.
You can carefully try an ink eraser on some titanium rubs, but Schaffhausen can fix most scratches.
In the UK service center we refinish the cases and bracelets of titanium IWC's as part of a complete service. We use a 'sand blasting' machine but rather than sand, the refinishing medium is composed of tiny ceramic spheres as used by IWC during production. This removes all scratches and smoothes over deeper damage.

Re: sandblasting, as part of a servicing in late 2013 IWC's technicians managed to fill in, smooth, and otherwise make basically invisible two non-insignificant nicks in one of the lugs on my Ti Aquatimer. Really, really impressive.
