About a month ago I was trying to decide which watch to wear and I took this quick picture of the GST Perpetual.
It got me to thinking about my IWC collection. I like and wear every watch at some point each week. But I was struck by how much I admire this piece.

It has several things going for it:
1.) It is perhaps the most economical perpetual watch available.
    2.) It is iconic IWC.
3.) The titanium is unique and the bracelet is among if not the most comfortable I have worn.
4.) It has a chrono movement as well.
    5.) The lume is wonderful.
6.) It wears smaller looking than it is.
    7.) I love wearing it.
Sometimes I feel like I want to get the white steel version. Anyone else like this piece?

Congratulations on your GST, Alan....it is indeed a remarkable watch and one of the best "value for money" perpetuals on the market today.
I have always believed that the GST general lack of success was due to the fact it was "before its time". If they were being launched today they would be an instant winner. I particularly like the steel versions ....a liitle heavier than the Ti. All models, do however, come on one of the best bracelets IWC have ever produced and coupled with the fact that IWC no longer produce watches in Ti I can see this model becoming more and more collectable.

Once again, congratulations on a superb acquisition

Very good looking watch, Alan, and as you point out, a great value for a perpetual. I saw a picture of one with a salmon dial the other day and almost went crazy.

I thought about the white at one time. I really liked it but found the model a bit thick at the time. After regularly wearing my Ingenieur and Aquatimer, I proably wouldn't think that today.

The white in steel would make a good stable mate to your black on titanium! I hope to see your pictures soon!

I've been sorely tempted to purchase a GST Perpetual when I've seen a particularly nice one posted for sale. It is still on my wish list for all the reasons noted in this thread. Yours is a beauty!

Alan, I did not know you had one of these.

Some weeks back I almost suscummed to madness and was targetiing a yellow gold GST Chrono that came up on the web, simply to complete my GST Chrono collection. I was crazy about the GST series, even before I knew that Nad's first ever IWC was the steel GST Chrono - and can tell you that the only thing that saved me from going down this route and buying a watch that I probably would never wear (yellow gold solid bracelet?) WAS THE FACT that I am ever increasingly attracted to this very watch you picture here. The more I look at the Perpetual GST - the more I like the idea of owning one.

I echo all your 7 points, and YES these watches wear just great.

Now, can you imagine if there was a blue dialed version of this watch?

    Best regards
    Mark

I got this watch over two years ago. I had seen one a decade ago in a store window before I got interested in IWC watches. After an inquiry in 2008 Bob Bunnik steered me in the right direction to find a quality used piece.
And you are correct...a blue steel version (Laureus anyone?) would be killer.

Alan - It is riding proud. I just love your Ti GST Perpetual. I fell in love with the Saumon (Pink/Salmon) dial when it was announced in 2001 - and it was recently, when I began to appreciate the wonderful Ti version. I really like the contrast of the dial and yellow markings. Congrats.

I just took this photo - in front of your photo on the forum!! Watch cousins!!

I like your comments - but I do not consider this watch particularly "iconic". I still feel the GST line is somewhat an "outsider" and, perhaps this is how it morphed into the Aquatimer....

    Ardoise,

You are probably correct. Iconic is not the right term to describe this watch. I simply meant that when you see one it cannot be anything but an IWC design.
And by the way, the salmon dial is very unique and striking. The first one I ever saw was Tonny's. I have often thought about trying to collect all the steel dial colors.
    take care,
    Alan
