    Hi All,

Seems to be a bit of activity here this last week with a few reveal's so I thought I would join in the fun.

It is funny how things turn out, I have been on the lookout for either a 5444-04 Regulateur or a 3762-04 Kurt Klaus Da Vinci and this week managed to get a new IWC to take the collection to 6 (almost have 1 for each day of power reserve on the 5001 :) )

In line with tradition, I am going to make you all sweat a little bit first - have to have some fun. Lets just say that the subject has some indication as to what I picked up this time. It was a relief not to get beaten to this watch by Shane for one which has happened on the last couple of watches I have been looking at. I picked it up about an hour ago and it is already on the wrist ticking away and as we say in Australia, I am a happy little Vegemite!

Thats all for now, I will get some pictures up later on along with a little more info.

    Cheers,

    Ben

Love the Da Vinci's so can't wait to see the pic's if it is. And if it isn't, keen to see the pic's anyway!

    Ben, please please reveal.
You were looking for a 3762-04 but then found one of those?

The title from your subject comes from a movie and when I heared it, I was deeply moved.

Like the others, I am looking forward to the reveal. My guess is somewhat different than the two Da Vinci's proposed and Imhesitate between two: the Da Vinci Chronograph Ceramic or the Yacht Club Volvo Ocean Race in Titanium. If I have to chose one, I would say the Yacht Club! It's a brother of your 5001 and it's lighter...

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

Da Vinci Chronograph Ceramic - Da Vinci Chronograph Ceramic - Da Vinci Chronograph Ceramic

Just has to be ... Not heavy but a brother too?

Well Clemens, I would have to say you are the closest, but still not quite right. You got weight and lineage references but unfortunately picked the wrong sibling.

My new piece is a titanium watch - the first Ti IWC I have had in the collection but it is not a "new" watch, but a previous release. As I indicated in the original post, it is funny how things turn out, I was looking for either a Da Vinci or Portuguese Regulateur, but instead stumbled across this and in a typical knee jerk reaction, thought what the hell, I will get that!

Before revealing what the new watch is, I think it only best to show a quick picture of its relative. I dont think it is fair to say this watch is the older brother. Father may not even do the generational gap between the 2 any justice, more like grand father or even great grand father. Here it is:

    lh5.googleusercontent.com/-VsPXLK91e68/T1Wx-6v0tyI/AAAAAAAABAQ/jH7N2ym08hQ/s800/IMAG0140.jpg

Thats right, my lovely old 666AD.

Now the problem here you may ask is, if that is the great grand father, then there are at east 2 possible great grand sons that could fill the criteria of being an Ingenieur and Ti, but which one you may ask?

Well, I guess I cant have you waiting any longer, to a drum beat, . . . . . here is the new watch:

    lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Hyj73p72k-g/UGTsEluHetI/AAAAAAAABEw/KgLhl7UQpnk/s800/20120928_093217.jpg

    lh6.googleusercontent.com/-e4Xaj4PQ9Zc/UGTsG3B-X3I/AAAAAAAABE8/vusOAMZGH1I/s800/20120928_093525.jpg

    lh4.googleusercontent.com/-X0u-0qSWQR8/UGTsIG2Hq2I/AAAAAAAABFE/_SpNgtyZfag/s800/20120928_093705.jpg

So alas, it isn't a 544404 or 3762, and it isn't even close to either of them, but whilst I was looking for the other 2, I stumbled across it and thought what a great watch this generation of Ingenieurs is, especially when combined with Titanium and a "special" edition for AMG. It is a "proper" Ingenieur with faraday cage, displays a lot of IWC's engineering expertise with in house movement, titanium case and simple features and whilst it has the cast iron inners, it is a fair bit lighter than its direct brothers and I like this size over current Ingenieurs so I thought what the heck.

So here I am with 2 Ingenieurs, with each representing to distinct ends of the lineup but sharing a very close heritage. There is also 2 Pilots in the collection with similar relationships - a MK XI which is in a lot or ways the start of the Pilots watches and its great grand son the Top Gun 3799 which shares a lot of the ingenuity or the MK XI but with a modern touch from both the ceramic case and rattrapante movement, A Portuguese 5001 with the cracker 5000 series 7 / 8 day movement and a Aquatimer 2000. In addition to this being my 6th IWC, it is also my 4th with faraday cage - both Ingenieurs and both Pilots, so there is a fair whack of cast iron floating around in the safe now!

Whilst I didn't get either the Regulateur or Kurt Klaus Da Vinci, the best thing is that I can still enjoy the hunt over the coming months as I continue searching for the right piece - as they say, its all about the journey :)

    Cheers,

    Ben

    Ben,

Congratulations, that 3227 is an absolute ripper and I can see the family resemblance!
I must say that his 666AD great grand father has aged very well indeed. Still a classic beauty and a truly majestic piece of craftsmanship.

    Regrads

Aah, very clever Ben! Congratulations on acquiring this marvel of technology! May I suggest you add something else to the 'hunting-list': the Ti bracelet would be a very nice bonus!

Enjoy you beautiful 3227 and wear it in good health. I have the steel brother of your watch and it's great!

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

Ben, in honour of your Ti Inge, I decided to wear mine this morning. Here is a wrist shot I just took:

    Ben,
That is a fine piece. The red accents really add to it's allure.
    Congrats!

    2 x wow Ben!

Wow, I got that one wrong!

    Wow, that a nice piece!

    Thanks for an enjoyable reveal.

I've been looking at that one myself, Ben! I think it is a great watch to have in your collection. You got a GG design, in a metal largely pioneered by IWC. That sounds like a superb choice to me!

Thanks everyone! As said, it wasn't something I was looking for but am more than happy to have it in the collection, the Ti is a bit different, as some have said the red accents look great.

Clemens, the Ti bracelet would have been a great bonus but part of the reason I grabbed this one without too much consideration was the price I picked it up for - the bracelet would almost double the price in this case and I am very happy with the watch as is, but you never know what I may stumble across down the track though :)

    Cheers,

    Ben

A very nice watch. The 3227 is a direct descendant of the 666. In my view, you can't own one without the other. I no longer have the Ti Ingenieur (it was a chrono not a 3227). I have hankered after the Ti 3227 because titanium is sum a comfortable metal to wear. Enjoy.

Heavy brother and light brother ...
