Hey guys, I am Henry Louis, a 14 year old student looking to purchase my first "nice" watch. I know a lot about mechanical watches and I would like to buy the mark XVI pilot's watch. What do you think about it?

I also like Nomos Glashütte and Sinn watches.

The Mark XVI is a great choice for long time mate. Have you tried the Spitfire Dial? This is also stunning!

As Isobars said, beware with your college fund! LOL!

    Welcome Henry to the forum

and the Mark XVI is a great watch and I am sure would be a great 1st IWC.

Teasing a little: Maybe if your father is also interested in IWC watches you can get the Father and Son set of pilots watches......
If you search the forum you will likely find lots of useful information.

    Hello from Texas!

Welcome Henry. My first IWC was a Mark XVI Spitfire and it was a great choice. Not only did I acquire a reliable and handsome timepiece....but I got to be part of this IWC community. There is much you can learn here and I hope you enjoy the experience.

    Best regards,
    Jim

    You have to start somewhere....

I had an interest in watches as a teenager but no funds to really get into it. So I started with Seiko. welcome to the forum.

    Hello from Germany

    Hi Henry,

a warm welcome on this forum. You have come to the right place when it comes to IWC for sure.

As many others stated, the Mark XVI is a great start. I started with a Mark XV in 2001 with more than double of your age. I was interested in watches for quite a long time before but not very informed and I didn't have the funds before to buy a high class watch.

So enjoy your stay here on the forum, take care not to spend all your college funds on watches and let us know when you got it. Have you considered the Spitfire Mark XVI? It wasn't available at the time when I bought my Mark XV but if I'd start again today, I would consider the Spitfire Mark XVI very well - a beautiful watch.

Whatever it will be, show your pics as soon as possible to us. And now have fun to choose and buy. ;-)

    Hello from the Philippines:)

I believe that the Mark series of pilot watches have become symbolic or probably the most recognizable model under the IWC brand :)

and it's a great watch to boot since it's IWC :)

    Regards,

    Argyle

Hi Henry Louis from Canada also!!!! >>>>>

I am in Montreal; where are you?

The Mark is a great looking watch and will give you many years of enjoyment.

I used to own the baby brother, Mark XV with White dial, and loved it!!!

Keep us posted with your progress.

Btw, if you need any help acquiring the watch in Canada, feel free to drop me an e-mail!
