    Forum Members:

I'm interested if anyone out there has a Classic Pilot Chrono (3717) paired with a St. Exupery brown buffalo strap.

I've been searching the archieves for a pic, but no luck yet. The reason I would like to see this combo is because my AD did not have the strap in stock and it's on backorder. He said it might take up to 6 weeks to get.

Since I just purchased the 3717 last week with a "Top Gun" strap, I am anxious to see what this black dial/brown strap mix will look like. I was told that the St. Ex for my chrono is a 21mm and they were made in buffalo rather than the current larger mm St. Ex's that are made from calfskin. Don't know if there is a color/grain variation or if one is thicker than the other.

If anyone can help me with a pic or can do some magic with "photoshop", I would be most grateful.

    Many thanks for any assistance......Andy

Andy, not the 3717 - but I came across this... does it help to give some sort of idea? I've seen black dials with brown straps more frequently with Panerais... I think it works well. Good luck, Vinhthang

    Hi Andy,

I recently made such a pic and will try to post it tonight. It's still on my camera and I don't have much time left right now to download from the camera and upload to the web.

    Tilo:

GREAT!! Looking forward to sseing it. My AD says the buffalo St.Ex strap makes a very nice look with the 3717. So as I mentioned, can't wait for it to come in to see it face to (watch)face.

    Much Thanks,

    Andy

    Vinhthang,

Yes...every pic helps. This will be my first Black dial/Brown strap IWC combo. My AD hasn't let me down yet with any of his suggestions on watches or straps so I'm excited to see how this turns out.

    Thanks for the help....Andy

BUT: This image is not mine. I once found it here on the forum but I don't know whose copyright it is. If somebody feels offended please tell me then I'll take it off. But a wonderful photograph anyway.

    Tilo:

WOW,WOW,WOW !!! My AD's suggestion is right on the money with this pairing. I love it!

Do you know ( or anyone else that has this strap ) if it is truly a deep brown ? The Pic is very nicely done. I hope the lighting isn't making the strap dark. and it turns out that the actual color is close to the pic.

Tilo.. thanks again. That picshot just gave me a shot. Can't wait for IWC to fill the backorder on that puppy. Looking forward to showing some wristshots ASAP. BTW, I noticed that the new alligator strap on the 3777 is more like a BP strap without rivets. Since the lugg size didn't change, that now becomes another option for our 3717. I think it might be a improvement over the "thinner/dressier" alligator that came standard on the 3717.

    Hi Andy,
the colors on the pic come perfectly close. It's a real darkbrown strap. Have fun with your new combo.

I have two of those straps, on a tang buckle. They are kind of sharp dark brown when they are new, but they grow darker over time, almost black, but still with enough colour to make the contrast to the dial. Very, very nice and comfortable strap. Here you see the brand new strap of my Vintage Collection Pilot's watch a few years ago.

    Tilo & Paul,

Thanks for the color verification. I like the fact that it starts out dark and gets darker with age. My AD also mentioned that it is a very comfortable soft strap.

    Looking forward to it's arrival.

    Thanks again guys......Andy
