I'm in the market for my first "major" timepiece purchase and I've fallen for the IWC 3717. I found the following watch on ebay from a local individual (Los Angeles) who offered to meet in person to sell the watch and give me a 3 day return period: [url=Few questions:
Should I bring it to the IWC boutique here to authenticate it?
Do you think I need to get it serviced? I know that can cost a few hundred bucks with an IWC watch.
www.ebay.com. I'm a newbie here, so would really appreciate some expert advice and have a few questions:

    • Can I bring this to an IWC Boutique to check authenticity (and if so, how long does that typically take? There is one located in LA. From the looks of the pictures, does anything look inauthentic?
    • The watch hasn't been serviced since it was purchased in 2008. Considering it hasn't been used that much, do you believe it needs to be serviced? If so, am I better off spending more to purchase the watch from an online store? Do they typically service them before putting them online?
    • Any other considerations I should keep in mind?

Again, thank you for any help!

Hello JCHAR and welcome to the forum. A good choice going for the IWC and the 3717 as a first"major" timepiece.
I had to edit your post since we can not have links here to auctions since we are strictly non commercial.
I took a look at the watch and it looks OK to me. Yes you can bring it to a boutique and it takes 5 minutes to see if you have a genuine IWC ( even less ).
Regarding the service : IWC advices to have a service every 5 years, but it depends also how much the watch is used. But getting it serviced in the boutique will get you a great start with your new timepiece. Good luck.
