I simply can not wait. Any recommendations on where to Stay in HK? I want to cover as much as I can in 5 days.
Stephen --to stay, I really like the Langham in Kowloon, which is only 2 blocks from the Flagship Boutique and very much in the center of everything.
Stephen, first of all, welcome to Hong Kong! if you need any assistance/advice for your visit to Hong Kong, please let us (the locals) know.
Second of all, I concur with what MF has suggested. I don't necessarily recommend the Langham, but there are a lot of different hotels in the Tsim Sha Tsui area--some could be very pricey, whereas some are moderate.
The 1881 Heritage Flagship Boutique is located in the center of Tsim Sha Tsui area (TST for short), whereas the remaining two boutiques are near that area too. TST is a tourist's attraction with a lot of variety of food and other conveniences to offer.
Hi Stephen,
Welcome to Hong Kong. Please let us know if you need any recommendation and advice for your upcoming visit
One thing, Langham hotel which MF referred is Langham Hotel @ Tsim Sha Tsui. There is another Langham hotel at Mong Kok. Anyway, both are in Kowloon side and also very nice.
Hi Stephen,
I was at the HK Flagship in Heritage today, and met Gary Soloveicik. Gary is such a great guy to talk about our watch virus.
PS:
I am at the Holiday Inn 'Golden Mile' (Kowloon), which is just 10 mins walking to IWC Heritage.
DAvid,
Hope you have had a good time here! did you get to see the fireworks?
Hi Kelvin,
Yes,
I did see the Victoria Harbour fireworks, actually from a pub name of The Dog House, on the Kowloon waterfront.
Thanks for the ideas everyone.
I have never been to Hong Kong, I am looking for ideas on where to stay and what to do. I only have 5 days so I need to make every second on that new IWC count. :)
Well, if you really want to break the bank you could stay at the Peninsula and arrange for one of their Rolls to pick you up at the airport. The Peninsula is also right around the corner, about two blocks, from the boutique.
That would really be a bank breaker but I would highly recommend the Gaddi's for a dinner with life music performance, dress code is formal. Welcome and have fun Stephen.
The view from the top of the Peninsula Hotel across to HK Island is breathtaking, especially with a glass of champa's in your hand and an IWC on your wrist!
you guys are great. The rolls pickup is a little out of my price range.
David, Will you be there for long?
I just booked a room at InterContinental Hong Kong in the TST area.
Stephen, are you more into the cultural-things, or city life? Hong Kong offers a combination of both!
I must warn you though... where TST is located, you will find many shops selling watches in every corner and on every street.
Try doing a google search on "discover hong kong". You should be able to find a web-site hosted by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. It is a good start on brainstorming what to do in Hong Kong.
Likewise, David... sorry that most of us are busy with the new year activities. If you in need of the local IWC fans' help for whatever reasons, please let us know!
By the way, since you are staying that the Gold Miles... have you walked down the side street? (not Nathan Road). You will find a few watch shops there... those are Shing's secret hideouts besides the 1881 Flagship boutique. They import their watches from Europe, so they manage to offer better discounts than the regular AD's.
Also, if you walk up Nathan Road towards Jordon/Mongkok, you will find a shopping mall selling a lot of 2nd hand watches near the Miramir hotel. (no, I am afraid you won't find any miramar top gun there, I am sorry). Worth going there to take a look!
Enjoy the rest of your stay and have a safe trip back.
On top of Kevin's great suggestion.
You might want to spend one day in Macau, one hour away from HK by hydrofoil. Besides, it is a Casino city. It is also a small city with distinct characters. You can see very old Portuguese building, grand casinos and old Chinese streets, etc
Another day, you might visit the "Big Buddha", the biggest outside Buddha in the world. It is located in Lantau Island. You can go to Tung Chung and taking the Ngong Ping 360 cable car to Ngong Ping to see the "Big Buddha". After that, you can go to Tai O. You can see a old fish village.
There are a lot of things to see in HK. Check out the Discover Hong Kong website, you will have a feel.
By the way, Stephen, if you can let us know when will you visit the Flagship. Some of the Hong Kong based forumers might be able to drop by and say Hi.... Or, if you want, you can shoot me an email and I can let other HK forumers know.
Stephen, unfortunately I am now back in China, but you cannot fail to have fun in Hong Kong.
Hi Kelvin, thanks for your suggestions and I did visit the side street watch places, but two vists to the IWC Flagship Boutique with Ms Fiemy & Gary, and I will definitely buy my next IWC there!
