    Greetings,

The subject line here has two meanings –this holiday drawing is intended as the best drawing we’ve ever had. There are more prizes, and really good ones, than ever before. I hope to distribute at least 25 goodies to forum members, and whenever possible to give winners at least a choice of two selected items.

But the contest is also about the IWC’s Best. We’re now approaching the end of ten years and the end of a decade for IWC. There have been many changes –a lot of new models, new people, new marketing, and new projects.

To enter this drawing is simple….Please post below here the one best thing that IWC has done in the past ten years, and tell us why.

Your choice could be a watch, a charitable initiative, a book, a collectors’ event, a movement, a person….anything that IWC has done since January 1, 2000 and done great in your opinion qualifies.

If you post your entry (and one entry qualifies per member) by 11:59 p.m., Schaffhausen time, on Monday, December 7, 2009, you’ll be entered in the drawing. Winners will be selected by random number drawing, so everyone will have an equal chance. All decisions regarding the qualifying and awarding of prizes are final and without recourse (sorry –we need to put in the legal stuff).

That said, good luck and happy holidays! I’m looking forward to a lot of interesting entries.

    Michael

    Portuguese Perpetual Calendar

I choose the watch that stretched my imagination no end. It had everthing that I liked on a watch:
    - Portuguese
    - Perpetual Calendar
    - In house movement
    - Power reserve indicator
    - Extremely good looks
I also liked the trip that I made to collect it: in two days to Switzerland and back by train, a few days before Christmas.

    Kind regards,
Paul, wearing steel VC Portuguese: the whole VC series comes in second for me

    I speak IWC

I speak IWC. Not as my mother language but I do. Neither as fluent as MF does nor as Cellar, never the less I speak a little IWC.

And IWC is a language indeed using a beautiful medium, an interactive crystal ball called the Forum. And so it is at its best.
I speak IWC with many other people some I had the pleasure to meet, and they are such interesting persons and we share at least one common thing.

We speak IWC and communicate, agree on many things as we also dissagree on many more but please have in mind that we all speak IWC.IWC Forum gave me the opportunity to share, expand and learn in full my IWC language. To communicate.

For the IWC Forum that has been a true thesaurus of knowledge and fun. And allways on my mind. For the countless times I pushed the "refresh" link and the numerous times I was late at appointments due to my Forum commitments. For the pure joy. For leaving the New Year's eve dinner table last year so I could sent my wishes on time and the face Natassa gave me when I got back. For telling the time in such an impecable way. A definitive way. For the privilege and pride of being called an IWC Collectors Forum Member. For the Forum.

    Best regards
    Argiris

please count me out of the drawing...

arg and rob beet me to the same answer.
the forum is without a doubt the best thing iwc have done in the last ten years.
it attracts enthusiasts, collectors, experts, newbies and brings them all together in the very best of ways.
it is the one community (of dozens) of which i am a member and it is by far the most interesting, the most knowledgeable in it's subject and the friendliest of them all.
i think there may be lots of similar answers here.
my second answer would be the portuguese perpetual calendar for obvious reasons.

    CFI >

The idea that a company would do a special edition for a small number of collectors says how much they value people. The concept behind this is what also allows the forum, and sponsored collector's meetings etc.
    (And I don't have a CFI)

2001.5 and the debut of the Big Pilot. Their most.

iconic new watch in years featuring an inhouse movement. WISes and non WISes alike know the Big Pilot = IWC.

Stu --there's a problem with HTML text in posts

I believe that someone from Futurecom disabled all executable commands, including HTML text, in posts to avoid virus and malicious executable code from being inserted in the forum.

Obviously security is important, but to me there should be better solutions. It seems to me to be throwing away the baby with the bathwater, I have corresponded with the technical people but do not yet have the answers that I would like.

Sorry --can you repost with two photos, included in the Image URL boxes?

    Thanks,
    Michael

I would say that the forum is the best thing that IWC has done. It allows people to share views and offer opinions and ideas.

I liked the Cousteau initiative and also the forum. I'm not sure how well some of the other brand links have gone, such as with cars, however I'm sure there is scope to do more.

    I would say...

the forum has the first place in my heart, but that has been well articulated by other members. I think the issuance of the Vintage Collection is an important milestone for IWC in the past decade. IWC is a company with a storied history for each of the watch "families" currently available. The Vintage Collection is a tangible link to the genesis of those "families." What other company went to such great lengths to provide its customers with the opportunity to wear and appreciate an updated version, of the watches that made the company a leader amongst the watch companies recognized for horologic excellence

    Best regards,
    Jim

    Difficult one...

IWC has done a lot of great things during the last decade. Watches, events too much to mention.
I was fortunate to be invited to several collectors meetings and for me the collectors meeting in 2007 was the greatest.
Visiting Schaffhausen, the factory, a great entertainment program and best of all meeting a large number of other collectors (understandably much more than during the impressive SIHH).
Maybe because it is not too long ago but for me this is the best of the decade !

    Stefan

    IWC makes ...

    IWC makes a difference!
Not only do they make brilliant watches in Shaffhausen, but they 're combining their craft maker ship with good initiatives (!) For example the Laureus Sport For Good Foundation and the environment as we see with the Galapagos edition.
The one best thing that IWC has done in the past ten years is making me proud to own and wair IWC's and be part of a great community.
    keep it up

Well the Forum is the obvious answer, but...

for me it is the willingness to combine the wonderful perpetual movement with the iconic Big Pilot to create the BPP. It was the acquisition of my grail watch. In my opinion the all time best dial on any watch ever.

Hliday Drawing! Best of the Decade

In the last decade, IWC recognized the need for a revised business strategy and followed through by implementing a new up to date strategy that
    1) introduced in-house movements
    2) got rid of older, I would guess money-losing products
    3) strengthened product lines where competitive adv was strong
    4) introduced many newer, fresher models/lines
while maintaining a satisfactory cost/price focus in their selected areas of th e market.
    Win-win for customers and shareholders

For me it’s the friends I have made >>>

through this IWC sponsored forum. Without IWC support and MF’s guidance over the last 10 years, I would be missing a big part of my life. Of course, the IWC watches are always the center of any of our conversations, but getting to know so many people from around the world and actually meeting them is the highlight of my three years as a member of this group.

As for the watch centric part of this topic, I have to nominate the PPC and its incredible design, both aesthetically and mechanically. The PPC is an important and foremost part of my small collection. The perpetual calendar movement, whether for the Portuguese or DaVinci, always brings out to me the connection to KK and his importance to the company and its rank in the world of haute horologerie. No competitor has matched this watch mechanically or aesthetically, imho.
