I landed yesterday, and apologies to Nad fans, I took no pictures on the flight or between the airport and the hotel. Although I am here on business, the highlight of my visit is meeting Shing and the flagship store and dinner afterwards. Those of you who have met him, will know that Shing is very charming and delightful person to spend an evening with. He is also a very serious collector.

This weekend, there's an event going on in nearby Macau and many of the people you would expect to see at the flagship store were manning a Portofino themed stand in Macau. For that reason, I was denied entry to the flagship store. "We're full. Go away" or words to that effect. I was only wearing a Golf-Club which doesn't resemble anything IWC produces today. Shing came to my rescue and we spent a couple of hours chatting and examining watches that simply don't appear anywhere else outside of Schaffhausen. What follows are photos I took last evening. A huge thank you to Shing and to Karen Fong at the store who was very patient keeping us supplied with many beautiful IWCs.

Incidentally, the lighting in the store makes it very difficult to take photographs. Shing and Nad have done a fantastic job in the past with their posts. It’s not easy. Well that’s my excuse for the poor showing that follows.

A short ferry crossing to TST.

    The watches …

    Lots of yachts

    img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/RAVE54/33.jpg

Photos cannot do justice this very clever dial that seems to work in two different planes as the subdials appear raised from the carbon fibre effect.

The 8 day Portofino is a very seductive watch.

Shing sporting an original Portofino. I did check to see whether the new Santoni straps would go with the old Portofino. They don’t. Moreover, I was told that I have to buy a new Portofino before they will sell me a Santoni strap.

    The Ingenieurs

    img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/RAVE54/21.jpg

    img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/RAVE54/25.jpg

Is it me but are Ingenieurs getting bigger? This beast looks as though it would easily crush my 666. Actually, the new fusion Inge is remarkable light and easy to wear.

This white gold ardoise combination is quite stunning.

    img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/RAVE54/19.jpg

This 5001 is a remarkable combination of colours. It looks as though it has 8 decades of patina from a cigar bar.

    img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/RAVE54/20.jpg

Almost impossible to photograph in these conditions. The blue seems deeper and bluer than previous versions I have seen.

Rave, it was great meeting up and those are beautiful shots indeed.

All thoughts of that 544805 portofino I was eyeing at an upcoming auction perished once I tried on your beautiful beautiful 5251. Very grateful for you showing me that piece and the original Portofino with that exquisite movement is now high on my wishlist.

Look forward to catching you soon !

(and ...this is my first post using a new MacBook Air - couldn't join most of you guys with your iPads as the keyboard is too important to me - hence also my other penchant for not-the-blueberrys)

Great trip and some brilliant photos too. I need to figure out how to design a business or holiday trip to Hong Kong.

Is the blue dial Yacht Club the odd one out ? And the Portuguese hand wound the latest acquisition ?

    Shing,

Too bad you were not a Forum member a few years ago when I visited Hong Kong. You would have tremendously improved my already excellent trip.
Ahhh, but I will be back, just not sure when.

Excellent travel-log, and I wish you an enjoyable trip to Hong Kong!

Rave, I am sorry despite Shing's warm invitation, I already had some prior engagements, which rendered me not available to join you two.

    Hope you have had fun!

Did you get anything besides your Ingenieur?

Excellent visit report. Some great watches there, and of course good to see Shing dressed down and relaxed.

    Thanks for posting.

A worthy report and pictures in the Nad tradition. Like Alan, I hope to visit this part of the world, but just not sure when.

Hi Andrew, the new acquisition, bought last week in Zurich was the blue dial Yacht Club. I bought it and prompted by Mrs E, I searched the archives to check it wasn't the one you owned. The position of the luminor on the hands is different to the pictures you posted in the past. I'll post a close up when I can. If you recognise it, let me know.

There's only one new watch in the picture, which I don't own, sadly. That's the Portuguese hand wound.

    Thanks again for posting.

    Rave -

Shing is a great host. I wonder if he took you to that Hakka-style Chinese restaurant that he likes. Good food but very noisy + it sounds twice as noisy to Western ears if you don't speak Chinese. (LOL)
